Phase 1 of the St. John’s Family Shelter is complete! 35 families will soon move into the recently renovated building, which features active courtyards for the kids to enjoy, laundry facilities, community space, and crucial services to aid and support our most vulnerable populations.
We are very proud to be a part of this project and thrilled with the restoration on the front facade.
Thank you to the entire team who made this project a reality. Working alongside a group of folks leading the charge towards a more equitable future is truly inspiring.
On to the next one!

Yesterday we broke ground on The Hope House! The Hope House is a new alternative to incarceration for people living with mental illness as they are processed through the justice system. The new 6-story housing facility will provide crucial support through daily therapeutic residential programming, clinical services, support services, and space for recreation and meditation.
Thank you to Cheryl Roberts and Francis Greenburger at the for leading the charge towards a more equitable future. With the support of and the work of , we’ve started on what will become a new, compassionate model for a better justice system.

has been breaking the cycle of at the newly-built Hannigan for a year!
The opportunity to design and complement facilities like the gym and teaching kitchen with greenery and gardening integrated into the communal roof terrace and rear yard was a joy.
Seeing the Hannigan through these photos really does help envision the good 117 new supportive units does beyond the plain numbers.
I hope you enjoy the images as much as I have! - CG
Thank you to and for helping realize this much needed community residence!

We just can’t get enough of the Pencer House! The Pratt Planning and Architectural Collaborative had produced this initial design with a variance for more floor area in mind.
The second image is of HVA’s design, marrying the old and new forms with red brick, which the Pencer House wears today.
The model was a pleasant surprise during a recent visit to the LESC offices!
We’re so excited to be working on this rich piece of history ☺️

Thank you to for hosting myself, Cindy Harden, and our team at the Annual Cocktail Benefit. We had a lovely time! Very grateful for Ms. Williams sharing her story of resilience and reminding us of why we do what we do.

Later this year we will begin renovation of the elegant Lily House where New Destiny will provide 3 new, for a total of 30, units of supportive and affordable housing for survivors of domestic violence. Our aim is to refresh and renew to prepare the space for new beginnings.

Ever since I began working with Cindy, I’ve loved this first photo of the Pencer House.
Even after 23+ years of weather and wear it still greets with the same warm welcome.
It’s such an honor to revisit this project and see it glow again.
We’re putting together a scope of work to restore it to its original glory. Stay tuned for updates! -CG

In an era where climate change has become such a pressing problem, we are always trying to implement greener energy systems into our affordable and supportive housing projects. At our Washington Avenue project, we have just erected steel dunnage to support our solar panel array that will provide a renewable energy source to the building in an effort to help reduce the usage of conventional carbon based energy sources.
