Special shoutout to , an award-winning farm-to-table Oakland restaurant who have been regular supporters of small family farms here at the Old Oakland Farmers’ Market. They have a couple more nights of service before they close so be sure to show them some love before Saturday night. This is not a goodbye but a thank you. 💚
Think globally and eat locally. 🌎 Celebrate Earth Month by shopping at your local farmers’ market! When you buy local, you are:
🥕Shrinking your carbon footprint! Produce purchased at the farmers’ market didn’t need to ride on a plane, train, or freighter ship to get to you. That shipping uses crazy amounts of natural resources (including fossil fuels), and contributes to pollution and waste with all that packaging.
🍋Supporting your local family farmer (and the local economy!) who is more likely to use sustainable and regenerative farming techniques.
🫛 Connecting with the cycles of nature by getting foods that are in season, at their peak nutritional value, and simply taste better!

Friends of the farmers’ market! We’re having a ruff time and we need your help. 🐶 Health codes state that with the exception of service animals, pets aren’t legally permitted within farmers’ markets, or even within 20 feet of food stands or stalls. Despite all of our signage at the markets and the rules stated on our website, many folks are still bringing their furry friends to shop. As much as we love animals, please help us out and keep your pets at home so our Market Managers don’t need to hound you!
Step up your dessert game with famous cheesecake, who will be at our California Avenue Farmers’ Market in Palo Alto, starting today! Don’t miss out on the most decadent, creamiest slices and unique flavors like his Ube Cheesecake, pictured here.
Happy strawberry season to all who observe! 🍓Perfect strawberries are back at all markets, including FeNella’s beautiful organic berries! Happy Spring!
Every Friday, at our Old Oakland Farmers’ Market, we serve hundreds of customers that use their CalFresh SNAP/EBT benefits to shop for healthy, locally grown fruits and vegetables at the market. For 15 years these customers have also benefited from Market Match, a program funded by CNIP, the California Nutrition Incentive Program. The program provides a dollar-for-dollar match on CalFresh purchases, and sometimes other federal benefit purchases, up to a daily maximum, at hundreds of locations across 38 California counties, including 7 of our own farmers’ markets. CNIP is a food safety net program that is crucial in combating hunger and bolstering California’s small farms.
On Wednesday, Urban Village—along with fellow farmers’ market operators, farmers, food justice advocates, Market Match shoppers, and elected officials—met with legislators and rallied on the steps of Sacramento’s Capitol Building to implore California state budget leaders to safeguard funding for the California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP), which is in danger of being eliminated from Governor Gavin Newsom’s 2024-25 budget. This cut would be devastating to thousands of food-insecure Californians who depend on CalFresh EBT and Market Match to feed their families, as well as small farmers in the State.
We now need YOUR support to help ! Take action now by contacting your legislators and signing the petition: https://savemarketmatch.org
It never gets old seeing these stellar reviews roll in for one of our longest running markets! Thank you to the Campbell community for your support of the Campbell Farmers' Market all of these years! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🍀Happy St. Patrick’s Day!🍀 Did you know that this Catholic holiday was originally also known as Feast Day in Ireland? Well say no more because we are always down to FEAST. To celebrate, here is a simple and delicious cabbage recipe. Double tap for good luck! 🍀
Braised Red Cabbage
1 large red cabbage, 2 to 2½ pounds, quartered, cored and cut crosswise in thin strips
2 tablespoons avocado oil
1 small onion, thinly sliced
2 tart apples, peeled, cored and sliced
About ⅓ cup balsamic vinegar
¼ teaspoon ground allspice
Salt
freshly ground pepper to taste
Step 1
Prep cabbage, and cover with cold water while you prep the remaining ingredients. Heat the oil over medium heat in a large, lidded skillet and add onion. Cook, stirring, until just about tender, about 3 min. Add 2 tablespoons of the balsamic vinegar and cook, stirring, until the mixture is golden, about 3 min., then add the apples and stir for 2-3 min.
Step 2
Drain the cabbage and add to the pot. Toss to coat thoroughly, then stir in the allspice, another 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, and salt to taste. Toss together. Cover the pot, and cook over low heat for 1 hr, stirring from time to time. Add freshly ground pepper, taste and adjust salt, and add 1-2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar as desired.
*Tip! This dish tastes even better the day after you make it, and it will keep for 5 days in the refrigerator. Reheat gently.
