A student enrollment count will be conducted by ALL SCHOOLS
in the Olympia School District on October 1st.
The data collected is used by OSD to aid in building the district budget for school year 2025-2026. Doing our best to prevent absenteeism on October 1st will help ensure that our district is making the most accurate projections for enrollment figures.
Just to keep everyone informed. OSD revised a policy to make it easier to close schools by removing the 90 day wait period. They vote on this revision on 9/26. Sign up for public comment here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfZhQ8P6TCuHqnqhDE38LJ8KW16RRIJl5j_0KW-DpA2pCoMTg/closedform
Hopefully you have gotten an email from OSD or a Parent Square message regarding the open comment period for us to give feedback regarding proposed changes to OSD policies in the 6000 series.
POLICY 6883 was broken by the Olympia School District Board in 2024, and they are looking to make this policy to become less specific in the analysis they provide and the community engagement ahead of the 90 day decision period. The comment period for policy changes is open.

There is also talk from OSD board members in a recent meeting regarding redistributing some of our levy funds to other communities like Yelm, where levies did not pass.

Tonight’s School Board Meeting agenda includes a review of two four-year budget plans with the Olympia School Board. The plans outline suggested cuts for the board to consider to balance the budget.
Plan 1: Administrative Plan to Get to a Balanced Budget Without School Closures (which the superintendent recommends) would allow for all schools to remain open “for the next few years while enrollment is closely monitored and increased revenue streams are explored and pursued.”
Plan 2: Get to a Balanced Budget By Closing Madison and McKenny elementary schools.
