Back-to-school Immune Support 🦠

The purpose of our immune system is to provide protection against the destruction by undesired invaders like free radicals, bacteria, viruses, and even defective cells such as those found in cancer.  It protects us against disease and it is crucial in maintaining our health.

The key to maintaining health can be as simple as proper hand washing.  A little more than half of cold and flu viruses can be killed by correct hand washing practices.  A practice we all learned really well during the pandemic!

Ultimately, a healthy immune response begins with prevention! In this post you’ll find a list of supplements & herbs you and your family can take to help support and boost immunity.

Feel free to DM me about some of my favorite supplements.

Wishing you and your family a healthy and safe school year!

Backupuncture of Denver — Our Needles Have Always Been Dry 02/03/2023

Nicely written article on Dry Needling (a subset of acupuncture) - it’s origins and why you should ultimately choose acupuncture over it.

https://www.backupuncture.com/news/2023/1/31/our-needles-have-always-been-dry?fbclid=IwAR2ZZk9IOTsc_ZktVGDTLsKDwtFkyZkN_tIVb78fyb392NU8XkXVjzvinU4&mibextid=unz460

Backupuncture of Denver — Our Needles Have Always Been Dry Once dry needling practitioners began using the same tools as acupuncture, the debate of what distinguished dry needling from acupuncture began to be more acute (from the Latin acus ‘needle’), so to speak.

Acupuncture can help with knee pain! 🦵🏼

Can you predict weather changes by your knee pain? In many cases acupuncture can help chronic knee pain!

Acupuncture can be incredibly helpful in reducing daily knee pain as well as flare-ups.

Helpful with:

🦵🏼Changes in the weather - worse with cold and/or rain
🦵🏼Overuse - standing for long periods of time
🦵🏼Climbing stairs comfortably or kneeling in your garden
🦵🏼An old injury that never really went away

For chronic knee pain, I typically recommend coming in once a week for 6-8 weeks. Then we’ll try to space out the treatments a bit to see if you can go 2-3 weeks or even a month, and still feel great!

Get relief today by scheduling an appointment! Booking link in bio ☝🏼 or DM with any questions.

Pilates + Acupuncture Workshop

Join us for an evening of Pilates and Acupuncture; two stand-alone health and wellness methods that will be combined for the ultimate mind-body connection. Pilates, originally called Contrology, is the complete control of your mind, body and spirit resulting in restored alignment (balance) of your body. Pilates teaches you how to control your muscles with your mind and when the two are in sync, that connects you to your inner spirit.

Angie Mitchell, Master Pilates Instructor and Owner of Pilates Stance, will guide you through a 30-minute mat class to stretch and strengthen your core.

To aid in the mind-body connection, auricular therapy (ear acupuncture) will be administered by me Ixchel Hurtado, Licensed Acupuncturist and Owner of Mayan Moon Healing. Acupuncture helps balance the Qi (energy) in the body and helps calm the mind. Once the mind and body are in sync, I will conclude the workshop with a guided meditation to ground you while incorporating soothing sound bowls that will allow you to fully relax and restore.

This one of a kind workshop will leave you feeling centered, balanced and restored!

At the end of class, we welcome you to linger awhile while you continue to unwind with small bites and good cheer!

Space is limited, so make sure you sign up today!

Digestion woes? 🫣
Try some acupressure! ☺️

Find the point described and simply apply your finger or thumb to the most sensitive area you can find. Press hard but keep it tolerable (about 20% of strength), and hold it for 20-30 seconds. Can apply pressure with small circles if tolerable and repeat up to 4 times. Take breaks and repeat as needed. Make sure to breathe deeply while receiving acupressure.

ST 36: Is known as one of the most important points to tonify Qi (energy) and Blood and promote general wellness. It treats most digestive conditions including nausea, vomiting, reflux, belching, stomach cramps, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, and poor digestion. This point is positioned four finger widths below the lower edge of the kneecap and one finger width off the shin bone to the outer side. You should feel (with light pressure) a small divot or indentation in the muscle where the finger pad will naturally fall into.

PC 6: Opens the chest, regulates Heart Qi, calms the spirit, harmonizes the Stomach, relieves nausea and vomiting, regulates Qi. It soothes and helps support the heart and circulatory system in their proper functioning. This point is located on the inner forearm, approximately three finger-widths away from the wrist crease (between the tendons).

ST36 and PC6 have similar functions as they both can affect the stomach/digestion. ST36 is better for fortifying the whole body, tonifying Qi and eliminating fatigue. PC6 is great for its calming effect and any nausea symptoms. If unsure which to use, simply alternate using each one. Also okay to use both if unsure or if you feel like you need both.

Wishing you happy digestion! 💩

Ever wonder, how does acupuncture work? 💭

Originating in China, acupuncture has been employed as a health care modality for thousands of years. It is used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental, and emotional conditions.

🤔 But how does it work, you ask?

It's based on the theory that energy, called Qi ("chee") or life force, flows through and around the body along pathways called meridians. Acupuncturists believe that illness occurs when something (trauma, stress, unbalanced diet, poor sleeping habits, etc.) blocks or unbalances your Qi. Acupuncture is used as a way to unblock or influence Qi and help it flow back into balance through the application of needles at specific points on the body. Through the use of needles and manipulation at specific points on the body, acupuncturists are able to return the body to its natural balance (homeostasis) and promote the body's ability to heal itself.

💉 So, is there anything in those needles to help make things happen? No!

Western scientists have found evidence that acupuncture points are strategic conductors of electromagnetic signals. Stimulating points along these pathways through acupuncture enables electromagnetic signals to be relayed at a greater rate than under normal conditions.

These electromagnetic signals may start the flow of pain-killing biochemicals, such as endorphins, and of immune system cells to specific sites in the body that are injured or vulnerable to disease.

Stimulation of acupuncture points by needles affects the body on a biochemical and physiological level through sensory receptors - effecting not only the perception of pain but the activity of an organ(s).

👩🏻‍⚕️☯️ So, acupuncture is natural, safe, and effective? Yes❣️
