👋 Meet Marshall, one of our personal trainers at our Washington Square location! 👋

Marshall Lane joined The Summit at Washington Square in September of 2023. He graduated from Temple University with a bachelors in exercise science in 2016 and from West Chester University with a masters in exercise science in 2020. Marshall is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He has prior experience in a physical therapy setting in addition to being an assistant strength & conditioning coach at the University of Delaware. His deep understanding of proper exercise technique and strength building make his programming safe and extremely effective for his personal training clients.

Today, we celebrate 9 years since our first studio opened at 15th and Walnut. A lot has changed since our humble beginnings in 2014, but our mission remains the same. Say hello to our newest personal trainer on staff, Zack! Zack is working our morning shift from 6 am to 2 pm. He loves working with clients who need corrective exercise, nutrition help, and those who are looking to change their body composition, but he works with clients of all types. For more on his impressive education and experience, read his bio below.


Zack Younis joined The Summit at Rittenhouse team in April of 2023. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Kinesioloy (Movement Science) and his associates of Physical Therapy Assistant. Zack is certified through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in Personal Training. He’s also NASM certified in Corrective Exercise (CES) and Nutrition (CNC), which he incorporates into his clients' training programs as well as his own life. He also previously worked as a Fitness Manager and Personal Trainer at a nearby gym and as a high level trainer in a health and rehab focused training studio. His passion and expertise in corrective exercise and nutrition truly rounds out Zack’s holistic approach to health and fitness.

In the diets of most of the clients we see, breakfast seems to be the meal where least nutritional balance is achieved.

Breakfasts are typically packed with carbohydrates, and not much else, in the mistaken belief we must provide massive amounts of energy for the day ahead.

By beginning the day with a high carbohydrate breakfast we are beginning a pattern that will resonate through the entire day. A few hours after eating a breakfast like this our blood sugar levels will have peaked and then dipped and we will crave carbohydrate again (usually something sweet). This will continue through the day and often leads to energy dips in the middle of the afternoon as well as increased storage of fats as we ingest excessive amounts of carbohydrate.

A breakfast high in fat and protein will lead to much more stable blood sugar, and energy, levels through the entire day despite there being much less carbohydrate (the food traditionally associated with ‘energy’). This is because the body becomes more adept at using fat stored on the body and can provide a steady flow throughout the day!

4 Good Breakfast Ideas 👇

1- Scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and avocado

2- Grilled chicken with guacamole

3- Protein pancakes with cashew cream and smoked salmon

4- Poached eggs, mushroom, spinach and smoked turkey ‘stack’

If you've ever trained at The Summit, you've heard us talk about having good form, and for good reason. Proper form helps you work out more efficiently and avoid injury. Improper form puts you at risk of injury and means you are targeting unintended muscle groups.

The better the form, the better the results, period.
