May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the impact that mental health issues have on our lives. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma surrounding mental health that prevents many people from seeking the help they need. Let's use this month to break down those barriers and have open conversations. By raising awareness and reducing the stigma, we can create a more supportive and inclusive environment for everyone. Remember, it's okay to not be okay, and seeking help is a sign of strength.

As March is both Gender Equality Awareness Month and Women’s History Month, we would like to acknowledge the barriers women have historically faced and continue to face when accessing substance use treatment and how substance use affects women differently than men.

As many women with children are the primary caregivers, they often do not seek treatment or drop out of treatment early because they are unable to take care of their children. Pregnant women often don’t seek treatment as they may fear legal reprisal. The combined tasks of work, home care, child care and other family responsibilities, plus attending treatment frequently, can be overwhelming.
