Dietitian nutritionist students Sophia and Kathryn were selected for the Bridging the Gaps internship program this summer. They presented their work today at an event at the Homewood Community Center. Sophia empowered and mentored boys at Youth Opportunities Development. Kathryn spent her summer updating curriculum and working with Gwen’s Girls.

The Dietitian Nutritionist Program Orientation is scheduled for August 22-23, 2024. In-person attendance is mandatory for all current and accepted students. Dates and times of the orientation are noted here. Orientation will be held in Forbes Tower.
August 22nd in 4060 Forbes Tower:
· DN Years 1 and 2: 9:00am-12:30pm
· DN Year 3: 9:00am- 2:30pm
August 23rd in 4014 Forbes Tower:
· DN Years 1 and 2: 9:45am-1:30pm
· DN Year 3: 12:00pm-1:30pm
This Saturday, Dr.Passerrello and current DN Program Students (Anna and Jenny) were able to interact with hundreds of people from Homewood, and all over the city thanks to Open Streets Pgh rolling through too. Everyone who stopped by their table knows more about whole grains, why they are important, and how to find them 🥖 🚴

Congratulations are in order for Dietitian Nutritionist Program Director, Dr. Trisha Cousins, on the publication of an article for which she served as co-author. This paper also included a two other Sports Medicine and Nutrition Department members, Sports Medicine Program alum Emily Mulkey and Dr. Mary Murray. What a great accomplishment to highlight interdisciplinary collaboration!

Street Medicine at Pitt (SMAP) is a multidisciplinary, student-run organization that strives to bring healthcare and social support to individuals experiencing homelessness in Pittsburgh, PA.

Dr. Tracy Maluchnik will be moving to full-time faculty on September 1st. She will continue to serve as a clinical instructor and teach Intro to Nutrition, Nutrition Focused Physical Exam, and Food and Culture 👩🏻🏫
It was an amazing day having Pitt Nutrition and Physician Assistant Studies preceptors join us for an Interprofessional Continuing Education Program!

Alumna, Eve Penuel will be moving to Japan this upcoming summer to become an assistant English Teacher at various schools in urban and rural Japan as part of the JET Program ✈️ 🇯🇵
Since its founding in 1987, the Japan Exchange and Teaching Program or JET program is a highly competitive international program that promotes cultural exchange by employing young professionals in various fields to move, work, and live in Japan to either work as assistant language teachers or translators/interpreters.

On Tuesday, students in Food Application Lab participated in a Chopped competition as their final activity to showcase the variety of cooking methods used in lab this semester. The students turned their ingredients into extraordinary appetizers and entrees!
