It was a great honor for The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services to participate in and provide support services to mourners at the funeral procession for the late Corey Comperatore. Emergency Disaster Services wishes to express deep condolences to the Comperatore family and the Freeport community for their tragic loss.
In response to the mass flooding from post tropical storm Beryl in Northern New England, WPA has delivered over 400 flood kits! Thank you Adam Kitta for driving these kits to Vermont to support these efforts!

The Road to Recovery Free Store will be held this Thursday the 27th. We have time slots available if you or some one you know has recently (within the last 6 months) experienced a disaster (flood, fire, tornado, etc…) and could benefit from home good items. We have mattresses, furniture items, kid items and various home goods items in stock.

EDS is most active during extreme weather, like we are currently experiencing. We have been called to 11 fire scenes since last week, while still continuing our Homeless Feeding Outreach (that feeds over 100 people).
We are happy to support first responders with COLD 🥶 water and electrolytes supplements, ice pops, rehab towels to get cooled off, misting fans, food and more!
Since last Monday we have provided:
4,000+ bottles of water 💧
1,000+ bottles of electrolyte drink 💦
500+ ice electrolytes pops 🧊
200+ meals 🌮
500+ snacks 🥨

Busy week here at EDS, responded to a SWAT situation at Pitt’s campus on Monday night, then Tuesday was one call after the other… Robinson Residental fire, 2nd Avenue Commons Fire, Shelter response for the displaced residents at 2nd Avenue Commons, then a residential fire in McKeesport! Yesterday teaching CPR at the ARC then finally distributing donuts to the veterans for !!!

If you have experienced a disaster (fire, flood, tornado, etc) within the last six months and could benefit from furniture and household goods to assist in the recovery process, check out this program! To qualify you must have a disaster referral from Red Cross OR a referral from The Salvation Army. Our first store date will be June 27th. All participants must sign up through signup genius (link in flyer) or through the EDS office, no exceptions.

What a great long weekend to exercise EDS’s capabilities along side two other divisions. With help from THQ, volunteers and staff were trained in Emotional Spirtal Care and Incident Command Systems all while preparing meals for 200-300 people each day! Thank you to each our WPA volunteers who attended; Gregg Duane, Deb, Terry Whitehead, Whitney Cole, Captain Susan Thwaite, Joel Brown, Marvel, Pat, our wonderful secretary Terri and our junior volunteer Sophia! Thank you to our neighboring divisions for bringing your staff and volunteers and your awesome canteen and field kitchen! Many of our professional staff will continue training in The Mass Care Exercise through the week as well.
It’s been a fun first two days at the National Mass Care Exercise working with our neighbors in EPA Division and New Jersey’s Division. Lots of collaboration and learning this weekend!
