The Student Office of Sustainability (510 WPU) is a collaborative and programming space for students interested in sustainability and environmental issues.

🥳 CLUTTER FOR A CAUSE IS BACK! 🥳
This year's Clutter for a Cause will take place on April 24-28, Wednesday-Sunday. A full list of hours can be found on the following slide as well as the link in our bio.
👚 We collect clothing, textiles, dorm room essentials, electronics, and non-perishable food items for on- and off-campus locations. A full list of all accepted donations and location sites can be found in the link in our bio!
📣📣 VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED 📣📣
We are currently looking for volunteers to help with sorting, cleaning, answering questions, and moving items. All necessary training and information will be sent to volunteers prior to shifts. Please spread the word to your organizations! Link to sign up for volunteer shifts can be found in our bio.
Stop by the Student Sustainability Forum happening from April 18-19, 6:30-8:00 PM and 8:30 am - 4 PM respectively. The first location will be at the WPU plaza and the second location is in the O’Hara Student Center Ballroom. For me information, see the graphic above. We hope to see you there!

Taking place this week on April 4th at 8:30PM in the SOOS, celebrate the start of Earth Month with us! There will be pizza and announcements of upcoming events on campus!

On march 21st from 4-6 PM in the WPU assembly room, there will be a town hall on food accessibility. The focus will be getting a grocery store available in Oakland. Attendees will be able to ask questions and raise concerns regarding food accessibility in Oakland.
On Tuesday, March 5th from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in 510 WPU, there will be an “Exploring Sustainability in Medicine” panel. The panel will feature a Q and A session with UPMC physicians in various specialities working make medicine more sustainable through research and innovation. We are working to promote environmental consciousness through art on Pitt’s campus. We want to recruit a variety of students, staff, and faculty making sustainably produced and/or environmentally aware art. We’re looking to collaborate with the Farmer’s Market at Pitt to promote Pittsburgh artisans’ artwork revolving around sustainability. If you produce art in a sustainable manner and/or conveying themes of environmental awareness, please fill out this survey to have your art displayed by the Pitt Farmer’s Market. As well as, possibly at the Hillman Library for the remainder of Spring 2024 and Fall 2024 semester. The link is in our bio!
Join us on Friday, February 9th from 3-5 PM in the Center for Creativity University Store for a sustainable valentines event! Earn OCC credit, celebrate love sustainably, and enter our raffle for a chance to win some prizes!
Need help landing an internship? SOOS is hosting an internship panel on February 7th at 510 WPU at 7 PM! There will be tips for finding an internship and interviewing, how to get the most out of your internship, and promotion of open sustainability-related internships and student job opportunities! Maggie Lincoln, GS - Analyst at NASA Develop, Ashlynn Moretti, 3R Sustainability Intern, and Geetika Godavarthy, Water Analysis Micriobiology Intern at New Hampshire DHHS will be in attendance. Welcome ! Alyse Faerberg is the director of the Green Funds Allocations Board. In terms of sustainability on campus, her role encourages direct student action. She works with a group of students with a passion for sustainability. Together Alyse and her team work to bring green student led projects to life. She is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh and has worked with 2 previous directors of the GFAB. She is a neuroscience major, and hiking sparked her love for the environment and equity.
Welcome .kim ! In her role as Program Associate for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Justice, Christy helps connect students to basic needs resources while also managing and advocating for environmental justice initiatives. She is an environmental studies major with an economics minor and a sustainability certificate. Christy's main hobbies include hiking, watching movies, and exploring new restaurants. In addition to her role, she is also a member of the Epsilon Eta Delta honors fraternity!

First Thursday's are monthly meet-ups of all of the affiliated organizations of the SOOS to come together, enjoy some free pizza, and share updates about their clubs, events, and projects. Welcome .rowley , the Student Office of Sustainability Liaison for the Student Government Board! She is a Senior pursuing a degree in Environmental Science and Chinese, hailing from the Pittsburgh area. Ana's passions include thrifting, exploring new coffee establishments, and nurturing her collection of plants. She welcomes anyone to reach out for discussions on sustainability or simply to say hello!
The PAAR Survivor Welcome Workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 4th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in 510 William Pitt Union (SOOS office). You will be able to meet sexual misconduct survivor advocates from PAAR. There will be take-home journals, essential oils, coloring pages, and more. This event is open to everyone. We hope to see you there!
Come out to the plant2plate harvest festival on September 24th from noon to 4:00 PM at 250 Oakland avenue! There will be food trucks, fresh produce, goats, live music, and games! We hope to see you there!
Welcome , the Program Associate for Affiliate Organizations and Member Outreach! She is a junior in the Honors College majoring in Environmental Science with minors in Chemistry, Mediterranean Art & Archaeology, and a certificate in Global Health. On campus she is part of the Pitt Green Fund, Plant2Plate, and in the future she hopes to go into medicine, making the field more sustainable. In her free time she loves birdwatching and whittling!
Amanda is the Program Associate for the Green Suite for the 2023-2024 academic year. She is a senior environmental engineering student with a certificate in sustainability. Amanda is also actively involved in the American Society of Civil Engineers and Theta Tau. In her free time, she enjoys playing soccer, hiking, reading, and cooking!
Welcome , the managing director for the SOOS! Maggie is a 5th year student majoring in Environmental Science and Ecology & Evolution. She is also minoring in History and Chemistry and getting certificates in Sustainability and GIS. Maggie has worked for the SOOS for three years, initially as the Program Associate of the Green Suite. She previously worked as an EcoRep and got her start in Pitt Sustainability as a member of the Pitt Green Team. When she's not in the SOOS, you can often find Maggie at the Pitt Sports Dome playing ultimate frisbee, a sport she's played for over 10 years. Her other main hobbies include biking, reading, baking, and playing board games!
Get excited!! Mark your calendars for the SOOS activities fair on Sept 10th 11AM-3PM. It will take place at Gallagher plaza (WPU plaza). Come out to learn more information about the SOOS affiliated orgs if you didn’t get the chance to yet. This is a really great opportunity for everyone to get to know all of our organizations and see what they all do!
