Today (5/19/2022) is Mental Health Action Day. I believe small mental health action can generate a big difference. Here are some ideas: dedicate at least 15 minutes to self-care (meditation/deep-breathing/jogging/mindfulness/nature walking etc.), or checking in with a friend (the power of undivided one-one connection is amazing), or learning about new mental health knowledge. I will do one or some of them. Would you please join me? What other actions would you like to take?

His 2008 National Geographic special on stress, and his online lectures about human behavioral biology have been watched tens of millions of times. The humor and humanity he brings to sometimes sobering subject matter makes Dr. Sapolsky a fascinating speaker. His upcoming book is entitled, Determined: A Science of Life Without Free Will.
Dr. Sapolsky explains, “Science has known for close to a century that stress, particularly chronic psychological stress, is bad for the health of virtually every organ in the body. It has only been much more recently that it has become clear how stress can adversely impact the brain, with a wide range of implications for mood, cognition and behavior. This lecture will give a non-technical overview of the effects of stress and stress hormones on brain function.”

Alan’s Story
When Alan got really sick, he said, “I just want to get treated and get on with my life.”
We fought his disease together with all our might. We thought Alan was on track to recover and Alan was determined to become a doctor to heal other people who suffered the same disease as he did.
BANG! Alan passed away suddenly due to his illness. Beloved, amazing, beautiful and wonderful Alan, he was fifteen.
The illness that took Alan’s life was called mental illness, a nasty brain disease that takes heavy tolls on many people yet is rarely understood or talked about.
