Despite setbacks, homeless Mainers are slowly finding apartments Two people, each unhoused for years, found apartments this past month in Portland. Their stories are unique, and so are the complex ways they found a home.
We want to thank our partners First Parish Portland Unitarian Universalist, City of Portland and Maine Meal Assistance for a successful Winter Warming Shelter season! Big thanks also to MaineHousing for funding the operations….
We served over 4,000 meals, saw between 65-120 guests per night and assisted over two dozen people to enter into transitional housing or permanent spots at the HSC.
Special thanks and appreciation to the kindness of First Parish Church for opening up their doors when nobody else would. Due to their hospitality, our staff reversed countless overdoses and likely saved a few lives and limbs. Their commitment to treating our most vulnerable neighbors with respect and dignity cannot be overlooked, and was the most important piece of this project ❤️❤️❤️❤️
