On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Dr. Vandana Shiva will share experiences from a decorated life of global environmental activism as the 2024 UP Zahm Lecture speaker, hosted by the Garaventa Center 🎉

In four decades of advocacy for earth democracy, anti-globalization, food sovereignty, and ecofeminism—Dr. Shiva has been dubbed the “Gandhi of grain,” named a 2003 Time Magazine “environmental hero,” and selected one of Forbes’ “seven most powerful women on the globe” in 2010.

Exciting news!💡Thanks to a generous grant from the Sherman Fairchild Foundation, our undergraduates at UP will be diving deep into summer research projects. The first cohort of students has already begun their research, including studying nesting and migration of Purple Martins, investigating how errors occur when cells divide, and developing new polymers that convert heat into electricity. After 34 years of sitting behind KGW-TV’s morning anchor desk, Brenda Braxton ’85 announced her retirement from broadcasting. The news took Director of Public Affairs Dan Christopherson '88 straight back to 1985—to the offices of The Beacon during its 50th year—where her training in journalism began.
