Oregon education chief emphasizes ‘love and joy’ in schools despite challenges Going into the new school year, Oregon schools are facing several challenges, from enrollment declines and budget issues to low attendance rates and high student needs. But Charlene Williams said those factors are only part of the story.
Supervisors play an influential role in helping and supporting supervisees to develop an intersectional lens, socio-culturally attune to their clients’ lived experiences, and have conversations about diversity. School psychologists provide vital services in K-12 schools by providing mental, emotional, behavioral, and developmental supports for students. Their work has a huge impact on kids, families, school climate, and even school safety.
But there is a shortage of licensed school psychologists across Oregon, and especially in rural communities. L&C has trained school psychologists for years, but this fall we will begin a hybrid program that allows folks already working in school districts in rural and coastal areas to become school psychologists without having to leave their communities.

One way to do that is to close the textbook and get them out of the classroom — to connect and see social studies or science in the real world.

Two new scholarships for current and admitted students pursuing a degree in counseling, therapy, or school psychology are now accepting applications for 2024-25!
