Pastor Tony Phillips - Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Today is unique because it's Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day. Ash Wednesday is the beginning of Lent, 40 days of fasting in preparation for the recognition of Jesus' death...followed by his resurrection!
Biblically, ashes and fasting symbolize a period of mourning and/or petitioning God. For many Valentine's Day is an exciting celebration of love โค๏ธ but some experience it as a reminder of a broken heart, damaged relationship or just plain loneliness. Ash Wednesday reminds us of mourning, sacrifice and possibly pain. But because of our relationship with Jesus Christ, that pain eventually turns into the peace, joy and victory won through Christ's resurrection!
You will experience the same peace, joy and victory in love if you allow Jesus to heal your broken heart ๐. The Psalm says He is a healer of broken hearts. Allow God to heal your pain so that you can love again. God bless you!๐๐พ
Losing our lives usually means letting go of things that are not good for us even though we may not want to let go. But when we let go of our lives and fully embrace Jesus, we think and act differently. People can see a difference and sense His presence in us. So, let's show them through our behavior and actions who we love, what our life is about....live the life Jesus has called all of His followers to live!

Pastor Tony Phillips - I have noticed that having strong cardio helps me stay emotionally strong when things get tough. I have the endurance to keep fighting to stay positive.
When I am physically tired it becomes easy to give in to a bad attitude or a bad decision. Physical endurance definitely makes a difference when you are battling emotional challenges.
If you are going through a tough time, try getting in great cardiovascular shape and I promise it will help you persevere!

Roger Staubach was a phenomenal Dallas Cowboys quarterback. However, initially, he liked to do things his way and not Coach Tom Landry's way. Needless to say, the Cowboys were losing games.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, Landry, finally reaching the end of his patience with Staubach, gave him an ultimatum, "my way or the highway." Staubach made the decision to follow Landry's leadership and the plays he called. This change in behavior led to many Dallas wins (2 Super Bowls).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well...our relationship with Jesus is similar. Even though, He never loses patience with us, and we may or may not initially have successes in life, we won't experience the purpose and fullness of the life He has planned for us, without submitting to His will and following Him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Salvation is free, but discipleship will cost you everything. While, picking up our crosses and following Jesus can be scary, it will lead to a life more fulfilling and rewarding than we ever could have imagined. We were not made to be lukewarm Christians.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you being obedient? Have you submitted to the One that calls the plays? If not, let your agency, and your ideas go. Because, only "through obedience will we have victory" - a life filled with purpose and meaning - the life God has planned for each and every one of us.
(Matthew 16:13-28 (NIV))

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. - 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
Prayer and push ups...my morning routine!
Prayer helps relieve stress and anxiety. We all know that stress can kill you. Then push ups build strength, courage and self confidence. Together it's a great way to start the day. Each morning I pray for 15-20 minutes and then do 100 push ups. Keeps me calm and confident throughout the day.

Strength Training is this week's faith and fitness focus. As the scripture suggests, strength and courage go together. Strength training makes you mentally stronger as well as physically stronger. This is the activity that gives your body youthful energy and vibrancy!!!
I try to lift weights 3 to 4 days per week but my schedule is very busy. So, one of my most consistent exercises is to do at least 100 push ups each day. I usually do them before I get in the shower. This keeps my body fit and my mind strong. I physically feel better and mentally I have a more bold courageous attitude!

Pastor Tony -
On my spiritual journey, I have discovered several Biblical/spiritual principles that significantly enhanced my physical health. I'm going to share my top 10 on these Faith and Fitness posts.
The first is about NUTRITION! I have discovered that the Daniel Fast (daniel-fast.com) is the most nutritious, healthy way to eat. It is based on chapter 1 in the book of Daniel. It also produces an amazing spiritual journey. Four or five years ago I started doing the Daniel Fast, which lasts for 21 days. It was so amazing and I was so hungry for God that I did it every 3 months. It changed my life. Many people report experiencing incredible healing, energy and spiritual clarity. I have experienced all of those. It has been especially helpful in manifesting blessings and understanding God's guidance for difficult situations I'm facing.
One of my favorite foods to make on the fast is sweet potatoes. There are no sweeteners allowed on the Fast so I bake the sweet potatoes, then mash them with a little olive oil, add cinnamon, raisins and blue berries..so good! If you decide to try the fast, let me know. I would love to pray for you and share more recipes!
It is so easy to get distracted - to allow ourselves to be pulled in different directions and to shift our focus from fulfilling His purpose for our lives to what we want and envision.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We all have distractions that take our focus off Christ and lead us to negative places. Anxiety, greed, p**n, pills, anger...our distractions have many names. What are yours?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Scripture reminds us to stay focused on Jesus. If we stay focused, we can eventually overcome our distractions and receive the peace that Christ has for us. For He will "keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast" - Isaiah 26:3 (NIV).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, at the beginning of this New Year, let's make a commitment to trust in Jesus' plans for our lives; to keep our minds focused on Him, looking straight ahead, and to continue to pursue His purpose for our lives.
Happy New Year!
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
