This year’s Constitutional Engagement Project included 29 students, some preparing to teach secondary social studies and some who are TA’s for BYU’s American Heritage course. They visited sites in Philadelphia and Washington D.C. as part of a program to clarify the role of teachers in cultivating civic virtue.
We are excited to announce the Parenting Toolkit and Tips for Learning to Disagree Better, created in collaboration with Utah State University Extension Service and presented at the National Governor's Association in Tennessee. This toolkit first encourages parents to examine the type of example they are to their children in handling disagreements with others, then helps parents teach their children how to manage disagreements within their families and communities. Jason Carroll, our Family Initiative Director, gave a devotional at BYU-I today focused on his latest research on couples through a religious lens. He highlights that a temple marriage is a kind of marriage, not the location. Some of his marriage advice included founding relationships on proactive behavior like time together and daily acts of kindness.
