Some great summer tips!
Thank you First 5 California!

Keeping kids busy over summer break can be daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Here are 5 things you can do to be ready. πŸ‘‡

1. Plan for adventures AND downtime
Create a summer bucket list, decide what everyone wants to do, and get everything onto a calendar. But don’t forget to plan out downtime to relax and take a breather.

2. Stay organized together
It’s amazing how dishes, laundry, and clutter pile up over the summer with everyone home all day. The good thing is that there are more hands to help with the chores. Create a routine that works for your family, and get the kids to help.

3. Schedule playdates
Drop off your child at a friend’s house, and in exchange, they can drop their child off with you another afternoon.

4. Prepare for meltdowns
Fun-filled days can sometimes end with a meltdown, parents losing their cool, or even both. Try using our calm down kit or singing our Dragon Song when things start to get tense.

5. Be ready for boredom
Providing constant stimulation and entertainment can be exhausting. But letting your child experience boredom can help them learn to get creative and be more independent. If your child expresses boredom, you can respond with something to inspire creativity like:
β€œOh, I love being bored, I can’t wait to see what you end up doing.”
Or, β€œI know it's tough, but I know that your imagination can help you find something to do."
If your child really can’t handle being bored, create a bored jar filled with activity ideas for them to pull from.
