Meet Shauna! She's the powerhouse behind the administration of our STRTP (Short-Term Residential Therapy Program), which champions support for youth with high-complex needs in a residential setting.

Shauna's drive to help people is steadfast. From her previous work aiding individuals with disabilities to now assisting victims and youth who have been exposed to significant trauma, her dedication knows no bounds. "The work my team does is deeply fulfilling. Knowing that the care we provide can drastically change the path for these youth – I can’t overstate how much it means – to us and for their futures.”

The CLC’s Legacy House is a sanctuary where youth find stability, robust mental health assessments, and tailored care plans, kickstarting their journey toward healing.

"The compassion and dedication of this team towards those we serve is awe-inspiring." Despite the heart-wrenching challenges her clients have faced, Shauna's unwavering positivity shines through.

"There's always hope."

This is fantastic! Thank you, Kenzie!

A special THANK YOU to Kenzie, a very welcomed walk-in surprise! Kenzie generously donated bags of children's clothes and toys that she purchased during Thanksgiving weekend specifically to give to our foster kids! We are constantly grateful for the incredible generosity of this community.

Are you in the spirit of giving? We are always accepting donations, but are in most need of underwear, socks, and pajamas sizes 6X to 12.

Don't forget to save the date for our Cookies & Cocoa event on December 16th...featuring Santa Claus! 🎅

THANK YOU to everyone who donated yesterday, including:

⭐️Debbie F.
⭐️Heather S.
⭐️Christopher O.
⭐️Jean K.
⭐️Brian B.
⭐️Margarita V.
⭐️Forrest W.
⭐️Gil M.
⭐️Mimi M.
⭐️Gary M.
…and many donors who wished to remain anonymous.

Proceeds donated will be used for different programs within the Children's Legacy Center, including the forensic interview process. We provide forensic interviews when there is an investigation into a crime against a child or youth. Forensic interviews at the CLC are done in a child-centric space, with necessary investigative partners gathering relevant information via the technology in the space.

Here’s why forensic interviews matter:

#1 - Forensic interviews at the CLC reduce the need for a child/youth to retell their experience - from between 6-11 times to just one. This helps put them on a faster path to healing.

#2 - Prosecution rates are increased by up to 97% because of the investigative partner collaboration.

#3 - The forensic interview process saves the community an average of $1,000 per investigation because of the collaborative nature of our organization partnering with allied agencies.

Special thanks to Community Foundation of the North State for making this event possible!

“The kids we help sometimes bond with these weighted stuffed animals, either before or during a forensic interview,” explains Morgan, Office Manager at our Children’s Advocacy Center location.

Weighted stuffed animals are well loved at the CLC. They provide children and youth comfort in challenging moments. Research shows that the pressure from their weight reduces anxiety and stress and provides a sensory outlet that promotes focus and attention.

“We let kids take them home once we see they have bonded with their stuffed animal, but right now we are running low.”

If you would like to donate one of these weighted stuffed animals, we recommend:

North State Giving Tuesday "Early Giving" is live!

We exist to give hope, provide healing, and ensure justice for children and youth impacted by abuse, neglect, or other significant trauma.

The work done at the Children’s Legacy Center would not be possible without support from our donors, for which we are so grateful!

Nearly 85% of our operational expenses grant funded and reimbursement based, so donor dollars represent a minimum of five times their gift value.

For example, if you gifted $100, we are able to utilize those funds multiple times, making that gift worth over $500 toward accomplishing the mission of the Children’s Legacy Center.

Thank you to Community Foundation of the North State, First 5 Shasta, and Shasta County Health and Human Services for visiting us this week! We are incredibly grateful to have such amazing partnerships and support in this community!

We had an informative day with First 5 Shasta and Shasta County Health and Human Services doing some site visits this week in support of our ACEs Fund. This included meeting the clinical staff of Children's Legacy Center.

CLC received an ACEs grant to train clinicians in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, Sand Tray, and other therapies to help children process trauma. Being able to offer this training is not only beneficial to the kids, but also aids in attracting and retaining clinicians in our area.

Our staff from One Safe Place and the Children's Legacy Center gathered on Friday wearing many shades of purple in an effort to raise awareness for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

If you or someone you know is in a domestic violence situation, contact us at the 24-hour crisis hotline (530-244-0117) to speak directly with a certified advocate.

Thank you to everyone involved in this amazing event!

💜 October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a critical time to shed light on this disturbingly common issue and our shared commitment to eradicating domestic violence for future generations.

In FY 2021-22, domestic violence programs in California diligently responded to an average of 408 hotline calls per day. Shockingly, in 2022, one in 50 California adults disclosed involvement in some form of physical or sexual intimate partner violence within the past year.

As Assemblywoman for California's 1st district, I take immense pride in having successfully shepherded two crucial bills into law, directly addressing this issue. AB 925 (2021) ensures full funding for sexual assault forensic exams, while AB 1402 (2023) builds upon its predecessor to provide complete financial support for child abuse forensic exams. The removal of barriers to accessing vital resources for domestic violence victims is an important first step toward ending this problem.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Kimberly Johnson, CEO of Children's Legacy Center & One Safe Place, and Dr. Sean Dugan, Director of Forensic Services at Shasta Community Forensic Care Team, for collaborating with my team to discuss the far-reaching impact of this legislation. Your partnership in shaping these bills is instrumental, and we are immensely proud to stand beside you in your efforts to aid the most vulnerable members of our communities.
