๐จ Exciting news for law enforcement in Western Kentucky! ๐จ
The Governor just announced a historic expansion of law enforcement basic training. Starting February 2025, new officers in Western Kentucky will have the opportunity to train closer to home in Madisonville. The Department of Criminal Justice Training will train officers in a building provided by the Madisonville Police Department while the administration constructs a $50 million multipurpose training facility in Madisonville.๐ข๐ฎโโ๏ธ
For the first time since basic training became mandatory 1998, the Commonwealth will offer basic training at two locations simultaneously! ๐

๐ Week 2 of the Madison County Citizens' Police Academy! ๐
This week, participants dove into DUI enforcement with expert instructors from the Department of Criminal Justice Training. They got hands-on experience with impairment goggles, took a spin on a model driving course, and learned about the role of breathalyzers in keeping our roads safe. ๐๐ฎโโ๏ธ

It was with heavy hearts that we received the tragic news that one of our own, Russell County Sheriffโs Deputy Josh Phipps, made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty last night, serving and protecting his community. Participants had the chance to meet executives and officers from the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training, Kentucky State Police, Richmond Police, Berea Police, EKU Police, Madison County Sheriff's Office and Madison County 911.
Over the next 11 weeks, they'll dive into topics like DUI enforcement, police driving skills, campus policing, and more. Weโre excited to watch them learn and grow alongside our dedicated law enforcement! ๐ช๐

The citizensโ police academy is open to individuals who live or work in Madison County.
Please note that attending a citizens' police academy does not give an individual police power. Participation is for educational purposes only.
The CPA is a collaborative effort between local law enforcement agencies to build relationships and foster community support. This comprehensive, 12-week program is free to the public and will begin Monday, Sept. 9, 2024. It will continue each Monday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until graduation on Nov. 25.
