The library will be rolling out the new and improved EBSCO databases on August 1st. This is actually an exciting change that should help the whole Reynolds community when looking for academic databases and articles. We know that when an interface changes, it can be somewhat disorienting, but these changes should go a long way towards making the overall experience of using the library digital resources a smoother, quicker process for everyone....

“Poetry is a political act because it involves telling the truth.” —June Jordan “Poetry might be defined as the clear expression of mixed feelings.” —W.H. Auden So what is it? Truth? Feelings? Both? Is there a difference? Maybe poetry, like all art, is something that has a slippery definition. Maybe that's what makes it so personal, inspiring, frustrating, and alive. National Poetry Month is winding down--and so are your classes--so let's celebrate both!...

Most of us who have a pet are more than willing to discuss (sometimes at great length to less-than-enthusiastic-audiences) how brilliant our pet is. Generally, it's a given that people think highly of the pets they observe everyday, and thus have an elevated view of their intelligence. But what if the truth is simple and right there in plain sight in that last sentence, in the words "...

It's the first day of April, and you know what that means: It's April Fools' Day. While this prank-filled holiday may seem like a modern observance, celebrating April Fools is actually quite old--at least as far as anyone can tell. The truth is, no one is really sure exactly how or when the tradition started. We might not know exactly when the tradition of playing pranks on April 1st began, but historians have a few theories....

Most people have more than one device that they use to access the internet, just as most people access Wi-Fi in multiple locations. Since 1976, Black History Month has been celebrated each February, but it actually started much earlier, in 1915, when Carter G. Woodson and Jesse E. Moorland, a prominent minister at the time, founded an organization called the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH). They founded ASNLH in order to promote a deeper understanding and greater knowledge of achievements of Black Americans as well as others of African descent....

The world outside is a little stressful right now, and it's safe to say that's an understatement. So I think what we all need is just a few moments to laugh. I was inspired by something my 6yo son said to me in the car a couple of days ago. It went something like this: "Hey mom, have you ever been to Tennessee?" I then proceeded to tell him that I was actually born in Tennessee and lived there for about 4 years, and that he had actually also been to Tennessee when we visited Dollywood , although he would have been too young to remember that....

December 1 is World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is observed to remind the world of the still-ongoing effort against HIV/AIDS related stigma, to honor those lost to this disease, and to raise awareness of the continuing work to one day end HIV as a threat to public health.
The first World AIDS Day was observed in 1988, making this year the 35th annual World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is still as necessary as ever; there is more work to be done. UNAIDS, the organization within the United Nations working to end HIV/AIDS as a public health threat, puts it this way:
World AIDS Day remains as relevant today as it’s always been, reminding people and governments that HIV has not gone away. There is still a critical need for increased funding for the AIDS response, to increase awareness of the impact of HIV on people’s lives, to end stigma and discrimination and to improve the quality of life of people living with HIV.

If that question seems silly, let me rephrase it- are you afraid of parasites tunneling through your body, creating painful blisters that can last years? What about a worm that is living in your leg, that you have to pull out slowly, centimeter-by-centimeter, over a period of weeks? Yeah. Those worms are scary. Which is why we can all add a little positivity to our lives with the knowledge that these horrifying parasites have nearly been eradicated ALL....
