In March, 1903, the doors of a revolutionary new social service agency opened in San Antonio for the first time. The Charity Association of San Antonio and Bexar County, predecessor of Family Service Association of San Antonio, Inc., was founded by a group of public-minded community leaders. Day 3 of the Pre-service 5-day orientation for our Head Start employees is themed "Honor Your Heritage". Being proud of your culture and heritage is important in bringing excellence and inclusion into the workplace.

Family Service and the City’s Office of Historic Preservation (OHP) showcased careers in architecture and how technology is integrated into design to students in the Family Service Digital Scholar summer program yesterday. Digital Scholars were able to hear from a professor of architecture with San Antonio College and current architecture students that showcased their architecture models and design graphics. Geek Squad Academy kicked off yesterday at the Family Service Neighborhood Place with more than 70 kids looking to learn about technology in 3D modeling, digital music creation, video production, programing robots, and much more! Geek Squad brings in professionals and helpers from all over to ensure the best learning environment paired with a lot of fun!

Family Service Behavioral Health participated in the Children’s Crisis Intervention Team resource fair last week. CCIT is a week long training for approximately 50 first responders including school district police, public law enforcement, and specialty agencies, where they learn about children’s mental health conditions and de-escalation skills. They then practice these skills through role playing exercises in the afternoons. At the end of the training, the first responders must complete a written and role play test in order to receive TCOLE credit that can be applied for the Mental Health Peace Officer certification.
