Cemetery Stewardship Seminar - This Saturday.
It was another great day for the project on Tuesday as the research interns met with the president of the Texas Historical Foundation -- and also surveyed properties in some of the more rural parts of Medina County, including the D'Hanis, La Coste area and the Haby Settlement.
"We were exclusively in the Haby settlement with historian, Bonnie Jaks. We looked at original hand-dug wells, log cabins, attics and outbuildings looking for signs of additions, evidence of the early pioneers and noticing the architectural details prevalent in Alsatian building ... windows, doors, roof angles, building materials, and chimney/door/window placement." 📸 - Andrea Kempf Christman

I think I’ll replace my wooden porch with concrete to make it stronger! No way it will actually accelerate the deterioration!
Another upcoming demolition 😠 San Antonio College’s Early Childhood Development building, built by local architect William Dukes in 1958 as Osteopathic Hospital. Do we need more parking lots?
A big Texas-Alsatian welcome to the five women from both Notre Dame and Western universities who will be spending the summer here cataloging each and every pioneer home in Medina County!
This is an ambitious project but their work is being guided and supported by a long list of preservation experts and organizations that recognize the value of these historical and architectural assets.
Shout-out to the local businesses in Castroville that also have shown their support!..
