As we journey to AVANCE’s 50th Anniversary Gala, we’re thrilled to celebrate the Serna Family. In 2010, Maria Serna joined our Parent-Child Education Program (PCEP) during a tough time. With her 10-month-old daughter Lourdes, she found support, gained confidence, and achieved goals she once thought impossible. Maria’s journey led her to work with AVANCE, and later, to start her own childcare business. Today, she’s paid off her mortgage and finds joy in her family’s happiness.

Lourdes, now 13, is a confident and driven student, excelling in school and sports. This photo of Maria and Lourdes was taken at our 50th anniversary event in El Paso, a testament to their incredible journey.

Yessica's journey with AVANCE led her from being a Home Visitor to an ECE Teacher, and now, a PCEP Coach. Her dedication has also set a strong foundation for Benjamin, whose love for reading and curiosity have earned him a spot in a prestigious magnet school. 📚🏫

Among her many achievements, Dr. Rodriguez has been inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame and received the National Hispanic Heritage Award in Education.

We will honor her legacy this year at our 50th Anniversary Gala in September. Happy Birthday, Dr. Rodriguez! ✨
