Our own Red Crosser Carol La Vache recently reunited with the heroes that saved her husband, Lenny’s life!
While running errands at a local store, Lenny experienced a cardiac emergency. Fortunately, retired Fire Captain Jim Tulette and his wife Dilki were nearby. Jim immediately began CPR and instructed store employees to call 911. Shortly after, a crew from Orange County Fire Authority Station 48 arrived on-scene to continue care.
“You saved his life... I cannot thank you enough for how brave you were. Thank you for everything,” said Carol.
We applaud the lifesaving actions of Jim, Dilki and OC Fire Authority Station 48!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Raquel Garcia was looking for something to help her feel more fulfilled. That’s when she joined the Red Cross Youth Advisory Council.
“The Red Cross makes a difference in many lives and there’s nothing more fulfilling than helping others. Seeing kids go off to college year after year is so rewarding especially when I helped mentor them.”
Since joining the Red Cross, Raquel has volunteered in many capacities including as a youth engagement lead, a blood donor ambassador, a sheltering team member, a disaster action team lead and a disaster duty officer. For Raquel’s outstanding dedication to our mission, she was named our June Volunteer of the Month!
