Project YANO

Project YANO provides young people with an alternative point of view about military enlistment.

Our goal is to help young people become able to make educated decisions about their future. We encourage them to think critically, search for more information, and then make up their own minds

Wars & occupations continue to wage. Politicians and war profiteers continue to vie for a future where militarism is absolutely omnipresent and entrenched in our society. As fewer young people become interested in enlisting in the military, recruitment tactics get bolder and more coercive.

Help us combat the militarization of young people and their schools! We are seeking to expand our counter-recruitment work during these critical times. We are hiring a program coordinator! This is a unique opportunity to contribute to this work in the San Diego region and beyond. Please consider applying if you think you are a good fit for our grassroots non-profit organization, or share with anyone you think might be interested! Photos from Project YANO's post 04/18/2024

Dear friends and family, it is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Cecilia Ubilla- a Project YANO member and supporter. She passed away peacefully last Friday, April 12, 2024. Cecilia was a life-long anti-militarism activist who survived the horrors of the Chilean Pinochet dictatorship. She arrived in San Diego as a political exile and continued to engage in activism against militarism in her country and in the U.S. She was involved with Project YANO for over 30 years- as an advisory board member, speaker, translator, and volunteer at many of our events and booths. Through her work with Project YANO, her work as an educator at UCSD, and her participation the San Diego community, she touched the lives of thousands of students and people. Her memory will continue to inspire and live on among us and in our work. Cecilia Ubilla, PRESENTE!

Our Story

Our goal is to help young people become able to make educated decisions about their future. We encourage them to think critically, search for more information, and then make up their own minds.

Project YANO seeks to educate school officials about the need to give students a more balanced view on the military. We have also urged schools to make students and their families more aware of how to protect their privacy by using their right to opt out if student information is going to be released to military recruiters. Our work is done in partnership with military veterans who know first-hand about the realities of military life and war that are missing from armed forces marketing.
