Adopt a Basset; never p*e alone again! 🤣
Emergency foster/forever home needed! This is Dolly. Dolly is 2.5 years old and belonged to a backyard breeder who decided she was too small to breed. Dolly has a very special need, she has been traumatized by a man and she's terrified of men. She needs to be in a females only household. If you can help us with a home for Dolly, please message us ASAP.
****UPDATE- Brownie has been adopted!
And then there was one. "Brownie" is the last available puppy. 16 week old male, "red and white" basset mix. Please message us directly if you are interested in giving Brownie his forever home!
We still have puppies! Mama Luna and two of her puppies have been adopted, but we still have 4 more puppies needing immediate forever homes! Please message us directly ASAP if you are interested in adopting.

This Sunday, Oct 15th from 12pm-3pm, we will be having a meet and greet with puppies, adoption papers can be filled out, and a puppy could be yours. (PUPPIES WILL NOT BE GOING HOME WITH PEOPLE TOMORROW)Please PM us for the address or with a y questions!
One of our wonderful supporters Cari Cannon is having an auction to raise money for all of our new arrivals. Please go check out some of these amazing basset items!
It's raining Basset Hounds in San Diego and we need your help!
In the last three months we've taken in four senior bassets, including an 8 year old blind mama and her SIX 4-week-old puppies.
The seniors all need immediate medical care, and thanks to an emergency abuse case we took several months ago, our coffer is almost empty.
One of our new additions, 9 year old Audrey, has neurological issues and needs an MRI. Bruno, our new 8 year old needs a dental and neuter, as does 10-11 year old Rascal(left in an abandoned home before he came to us)
Luna, our 8 year old mama basset is currently being treated for erlichia, which may be causing her blindness. She arrived to the rescue yesterday, covered in ticks and needing a bath desperately. Her puppies are tick free luckily, but the 5 boys and one girl will need all of thier puppy care, plus spay/neuter before they are adoptable.
Please, if you can donate at this time, we really would appreciate it. Donations can be made at our website Www.sandiegobassethoundrescue.org
Or via paypal at [email protected]
THANK YOU!
Looking for immediate foster for a blind basset mama and her 6 beautiful puppies. There can not be any intact males at the foster home.
Please message us directly if you can foster these babies until we can find them all homes.
Meet Bruno, he's an eight year old sweetheart of a basset hound. He may have a touch of beagle in his ancestry since his ears are a little shorter than normal.
Bruno(he doesn't answer to any name yet so it can be easily changed.) is looking for an immediate (Thursday) foster or foster to adopt. He was diagnosed with erlichia, and will be on antibiotics for the next month to take care of that. He's also going to need to be neutered once he's over the erlichia. Then he will be ready for his new forever home. He gets on fantastic with other dogs, and kids. Spanish is his native language, since he's coming up from Mexico, so it will take him time to adjust to commands in English. This boy is just looking for a couch and someone to snuggle with for his golden years. Please fill out an application to foster or adopt Bruno at our website

Looking for an emergency foster for an unaltered male basset of unknown age, who was abandoned in Sanger, CA. Pics to follow.
Please be patient with us! If you submitted an application in the last two weeks, we just got it! Website issues. See more in comments.
Update: This boy is safe at a foster in TJ but he won't be coming here until early next week. If you are interested in him, please visit our website and fill out a foster or adoption form. Thank you!

EMERGENCY FOSTER/FOSTER-TO-ADOPT!
This handsome boy is coming over from TJ in the morning. He's got anaplasmosis, a tick borne disease. He's already begun a course of doxycycline. Anaplasmosis is NOT transmissable from dog-to-dog(or any other mammal) , or dog-to-human.
His rescuer, who he is staying with now, says he is a very sweet boy. He's not neutered so he cannot go to a home with any other intact dogs, male or female. We will schedule a neuter as soon as possible after the anaplasmosis clears up.
If you can foster this boy, who's name we don't know(If you foster him you can help name him!), or if you are looking to adopt a basset around this age, please message us directly through FB, ASAP. Thank you!
UPDATE- Thank you everyone for your patience. With the current unrest in Mexico several of the bassets we were awaiting have been unable to safely make it across the boarder.
During this time Milo's mom found a local adopter, close enough that she will be able to visit Milo. Thank you to everyone who submitted applications for Milo. We will hold on to all of the applications, and let everyone know as soon as we get more available bassets.
Meet Milo! Milo just celebrated his first birthday. He's neutered and up to date on all of his vaccines. Milo is looking for a new home ASAP, preferably one with a yard he can run off some puppy energy.
Please note, by basset standards Milo is still a puppy at 1 year old, and will be for another year. Be prepared for lots of energy, possibly chewing of anything left out, counter surfing, and possible accidents when he first arrives. He is housetrained, but that doesn't preclude a few accidents when moving to a new home. He will need a lot of attention and training. He's lived in Mexico his whole life so he may only recognize commands in Spanish. Being bilingual would be an asset for sure.
If you are interested in adopting Milo please fill out an application at Www.sandiegobassethoundrescue.org
UPDATE:
I want to start by thanking everyone who responded to adopt Ollie. We received over 50 contacts about him and we are trying to get back to everyone personally, but if we missed you we apologize.
It turned out Ollie wasn't two years old, he was EIGHT years old, which changed the adoption strategy. Ollie is in his new home, one that was appropriate to his age and issues.
Hopefully we will have some new hounds available for adoption soon, so please follow our page.
Thank You,
SDBHR
This is Ollie! Ollie is a two year old male basset looking for his forever home ASAP! Ollie is looking for a home with a yard and a family with lots of energy to give him attention. If you are interested in meeting Ollie, please message us.
Mumford is still looking for his forever home! Mumford is an 8 year old male basset hound who's family is being transferred by the military to somewhere that they will be unable to get access to good, or even any,, Vet care. They are absolutely broken hearted, and want to find him the perfect home before they leave.
Mumford has chronic pancreatitis and he has anxiety that causes resource hoarding, for which he is taking Prozac. Mumford needs to be an only dog. Due to his pancreatitis, he will need to be on a prescription, low fat food for the rest of his life. Mumford will also be a no table scraps dog due to the pancreatitis, and fatty foods can cause a painful and expensive flare up.
Despite these minor issues Mumford is an amazing hound with so much love to give. His favorite thing to do is snuggle with his humans, which he would like to do all the time.
If you think you are the right human(s) for Mumford, please contact us about the possibility of adopting him!
**Please note: we are having trouble with our email server so if you would like to adopt Mumford reply to this post, or message us through FB and we will send you the application. Thank you!

Happy Thanksgiving from everyone at SDBHR. Please don't forget the most important Thanksgiving safety for your furry friends!
A job where it was being your basset to work day every day!
This picture circa 1900s shows knife grinders also called ventres jaunes (‘yellow stomachs’ referring to the yellow dust released by the grinding wheel).
By laying face down, these yellow stomachs would save their backs from being hunched over all day. Workers were encourage to bring their dogs to not only keep them company but to act as heaters to keep them warm by having the dogs lie on their legs.

Just wanted to give everyone a quick update on Cassie(formerly Molly our parvo puppy.) She is doing amazingly well, although she still has some catch up growing to do, she is up to 25lbs, from the 6lbs she was when we got her, and the 8lbs she weighed when she came out of the hospital. She is getting her last set of vaccines next week and her foster mom says she plays constantly with her 2 basset and one German Shepherd brothers. Thank you again to everyone who made this little girl's life possible!
