This week’s post is a shout out to ’s real-time monarch and milkweed tracking maps. Did you know that at any given moment during summer breeding season or fall/spring migration, you can see a visual representation of where and when monarch butterflies have been spotted across North America? Same with milkweed! These maps are generated by community scientists who log their observations in Journey North’s database. In fact, Journey North has maps for a variety of organisms, from hummingbirds to tulips, and bald eagles to earthworms! Hello from Spring Valley Science School!

My name is Gary Lew, and I am one of the 4th grade teachers here at SVSS. Please help spread the word about the Spring Show we’ll be having this coming Saturday and Sunday!

Our 4th and 5th graders have been working hard these past 8 weeks to create artwork based on their favorite locations around our neighborhood. Their art pieces will be on display throughout the studio, located at 1677 Washington St. Admission to this event is free of charge and all are welcome! Any donations made will go directly to our PTA in order to help fund school programs, field trips, teacher positions, school supplies, and technology for our school.

Free Meals Available During School Closure : Beginning Thursday, March 19 on weekdays from 9 AM - 10 AM, SFUSD will provide free meals to all children 18 and younger at Gordon J. Lau Elementary School. No identification or proof of school enrollment is required, but a child must be present. Breakfast, lunch, fresh fruit, vegetables, and milk will be provided to take home. Shelf-stable meals will also be available. Families will not need to enter the school building for pick-up. Please line up outside the gate at 950 Clay Street.
