• Monday, Oct. 21, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in SMC Student Services Center, Orientation Hall (SSC 183): “City of Santa Monica’s Sustainable City Plan plus SMC’s draft Campus Sustainability Plan.” A brief presentation on the 30th anniversary of Santa Monica becoming one of the first cities to adopt a comprehensive Sustainable City Plan, and an overview of SMC’s own draft Campus Sustainability Plan.

• Tuesday, Oct. 22, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in grassy area by the Organic Learning Garden: “Food Justice with Nourish LA.” An informative talk by Nourish LA founder and SMC alum Natalie Flores about food security/justice and sustainable and equitable resources like Nourish LA and the Bodega for students.

• Wednesday, Oct. 23, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in SMC Student Services Center, Orientation Hall (SSC 183): “The Street Project” Film Screening and Audience Q&A. Screening of “The Street Project,” a documentary on the surge in street fatalities, the factors causing them, and ways to make streets safer for the public. An audience Q&A session follows the screening.

• Thursday, Oct. 24, 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in SMC Quad: “DIY Sustainable Spa Day.” Tips and techniques for a personal eco-friendly spa day with homemade products using safe, easily available ingredients.

Bicycle Maintenance I: Learn to repair your own bike or build skills to be a professional mechanic.
Bicycle Maintenance II: Advanced bike repair skills + learn the business side of the bicycle industry (sales, repair, rental, etc).
• Classes start September 7th at SMC’s main campus. Find details here or call 310 434-3399.

• No cost, no previous knowledge needed, no prerequisites. Proof of vaccination required, as this is a hands-on, in-person class.

The Surfrider Los Angeles Chapter is looking for volunteers to help collect samples at multiple sites in Venice, Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, & Malibu on Saturday mornings, and drop them off to the Surfrider LA lab in Santa Monica by noon.

Enjoy going to the beach and knowing the water is clean to surf, swim, and play in? Have a flexible schedule on Saturday’s and can commit 3-5 hours monthly? Want to gain experience while making an impact in your community? We could really use your help!

No previous lab experience needed. All training is provided by our Blue Water Task Force Coordinator! Check out our open positions below 👇

Blue Water Task Force Sampler
· Available on Saturday mornings to sample the water at a specific site or sites. Sites needing volunteers include: Venice Breakwater, Santa Monica Pier, Will Rogers Beach, Topanga Beach, Santa Monica Beach, Pico-Kenter Storm Drain, and Sunset Point.

Blue Water Task Force Processor
· Available on Saturday afternoons to process samples collected that morning using lab procedure.

Blue Water Task Force Results Reader
· Available on Sunday afternoons to read the results of the samples.
