Eight years ago, the Charleston Council NLUS, of the South Atlantic Coast Region, hosted the National Convention of the Navy League. We challenged all the councils in the region to raise money for the new Fisher House that was to be built in Charleston. We were able to present a check for $3,000 to Fisher House as a reminder of the Navy League convention there. If you are not familiar with Fisher House take a moment and look them up. They provide dependant (family) housing near Military and VA hospitals while service members are receiving care. Fisherhouse.org

Congratulations to CAPT Don Giles and the entire legislative affairs team. Your congressional visits, both in the district offices and Capitol Hill, moved our message forward on this most important legislation. BZ

On the eve of our Congressional Fly-In, we are excited to announce a major victory for our advocacy efforts.

Thanks to the hard work of Congressman Joe Courtney, along with the Navy League Legislative Affairs Department and our dedicated members, the House Armed Services Committee has decided to include funding for a second Virginia-class submarine in its upcoming NDAA markup. Our advocacy efforts involved actively assisting in gaining cosigners for a bipartisan letter advocating for the second submarine.

This is a huge victory for the Navy League Legislative Affairs team, the U.S. Navy, our allies and America's national security.
