This weekend, the Camp Reed team remembers the incredible “Tricky” Tracy Walters. As many of us in the Camp Reed community know, Tracy was the ‘father of Camp Reed’ – the Camp Reed we know and love today. While it was just one of many areas that Tracy had a profound impact on, Camp Reed would not be the same – or even here, possibly – without him. Tracy and his wife Leta became the Directors in 1968, bringing in the beloved camp names through the counselors’ annual tradition of ‘name night’, as well welcoming girls for the first time, making Camp Reed a co-ed camp. Many camp activities and programs created by Tracy are still at the heart of the current Camp Reed experience today.
In an interview with the Camp Reed team in 2006, Tracy was asked what he would tell the Camp Reed family: “Both Leta and I had a life changing experience. If you have the chance to go to Camp Reed it might be the best choice you ever make... A week at camp can change a life.”
Thank you Tricky for everything you have given Camp Reed.
Welcome back, CITs! 👏👏👏
