Helen Marguerite Rushton Jamison
Born: February 5, 1940
Passed Away: December 3, 2023
Helen passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday December 3rd in Spokane Valley, Washington. She had suffered a stroke six years ago, and her quality of life had deteriorated significantly over the past few months. She was 83 years old.
She is survived by her two sons, Jeffrey R. Jamison and Kenneth M. Jamison, and her favorite daughter, Jill M. Nelson, and their families, including 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
Helen was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and her one-hour memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 23rd at 10:00 am at the LDS chapel on 16th and Evergreen in the Spokane Valley.
The center of Helen’s life was her family. She was born in Spokane in 1940 to Golden Elsmore “Rush” Rushton and Evelyn Baker and lived much of her life in the Spokane, Washington area. Her father was a Lt. Col. In the Army, which forced her to travel a bit, especially following the Second World War. Her father was stationed in Shanghai, China for a couple of years, and she and her sister Ginny stuck out amongst their people with their fair skin and golden blond hair!
Helen graduated from Cyprus High School in Magna, Utah and went on to study at Washington State University for one year. She married Richard M. Jamison in 1960, and they started having children soon after. Helen was fortunate to be a stay-home mom for much of the kids’ growing up years and was famous for her warm oatmeal chocolate chip cookies waiting when they got home from school. She never missed an event with her children or her grandchildren.
Helen was a class-act. Forever making sure she was put together when she would go out to dinner with friends or family, she was never without her lipstick or a tissue stuffed under her sleeve, ‘just in case.’ She was an advocate for the underdog in every contest, a conservative, politically and loved those around her. She accepted those who were at times marginalized, and enjoyed being a part of every conversation.
Please feel free to post any stories or memories of Helen, either to her page or on this site. No gifts, flowers or donations are necessary.

Happy 60th to this awesome Doc! We were so busy celebrating, I’ve forgotten to post it! Dr Jamison had the best time celebrating his birthday with friends and family, fun coworkers who put together an awesome airplane themed party, and he enjoyed some great food, too! This busy guy was able to complete his pilot license (almost, just a few flights left) while still being a full-time doctor, husband, dad, and friend. We love you, you’re the best! Hope you had the best birthday a few weeks ago!

Happy Doctor’s day to this great guy! 👨‍⚕️ You’re a fantastic doctor and we are so lucky to have you around! Thank you for all the warmth and joy you bring everyday! 😊

Most people know someone, or have had a loved one who has suffered with Alzheimer's Disease. By definition, Alzheimer's "is a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and progressively worsens." This is one of the saddest diseases that can literally affect anyone, and there aren't ways to prevent it. An early symptom is difficulty remembering recent events. As it progresses, it can lead to behavioral issues, language barriers, disorientation and mood swings. Lend a hand or a listening ear to someone who struggles. We care about you and your family! 💜💜💜

Tried and true, here are so basic tips that help with brain health and development:

* Exercise regularly. Nothing quite like feeling those endorphins as you exercise.
* Get plenty of sleep. Sleep gives your brain time to rest. Without adequate rest, it can affect our reasoning and problem solving abilities.
* Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet. Food fuels our brain. When we eat foods that are good for our bodies, our cognitive function can be improved.
* Stay mentally active. Whether it’s studying in school, reading books or playing mind-challenging games, staying mentally active helps our brains stay on top of our game!
* Remain socially involved. Making and keeping friends definitely helps our brains continue to make connections.
