I'm Carmela Conroy, and I’m running for Congress in Washington's 5th District. Born and raised in Spokane with a lifelong dedication to public service, I’m ready to go to Congress to fight for the hard-working people of Eastern Washington. I’ll find common sense solutions for affordable housing and healthcare, defend abortion and reproductive freedom, and stand up to MAGA extremists.
With our jungle primary just around the corner, we need to get my message out to as many voters as possible – we deserve real representation that prioritizes local interests. Watch my new TV ad below, SHARE, and join our movement today!
The Spokesman-Review has interviewed each of the 11 (!!) candidates vying for the open seat in WA-05, providing a way for voters to compare "apples to apples" on various topics, including foreign policy. It's an important supplement to the Voters' Pamphlets provided by the Secretary of State, who does not shape content. As a former U.S. Foreign Service Officer, this part of the interview was in my wheel house. Two key points: I strongly support Taiwan, while adhering to the "One China Policy" negotiated with Beijing by Nixon and signed by Carter. I strongly support aid to Ukraine, AND encourage Americans to avoid visiting it, or any other active combat zone.
On foreign policy, congressional candidates don't all split on party lines – except on Israel Candidates running for Congress are primarily focused on the domestic issues playing out in their districts or nationwide, but, if elected, they will be expected to make difficult decisions about America’s role on the world stage.
Voters' pamphlets are out featuring yours truly! If you're a Washington State voter, watch for your ballot to arrive by mail between July 19 and 29th.
Many thanks to Ron and Debbie Reed for their generous hospitality and for introducing us to so many of their friends at their July 10 house party.

Two years ago today, the overturned Roe v. Wade, overturning decades of recognition of our rights to privacy and bodily autonomy. Since , patients are forced to travel hundreds or thousands of miles to seek essential medical attention. MAGA extremists are threatening patients' lives by imposing their religious beliefs on others. As grateful as I am that Washington has become a safe haven for patients from other states, we cannot be complacent. Reproductive health care for all will require national legislation to defend everyone's .
Endorsements continue to come in, and I am grateful for the endorsement from the Washington Machinists Council for my campaign! My dad and grandfather would be proud. I look forward to collaborating with the machinists to support careers in the trades for our youth!
The WSU Lind Dryland Research Station puts on a great Field Day! They research wheat breeding, w**d and disease control, soil fertility, and erosion control, with significant support from the Washington Wheat Commission. I appreciate all the folks who shared their ideas with me.
