We had a great time last night!
Our Young Alum Happy Hour was such a fun event on this beautiful night! It’s wonderful to catch up with recent college grads and those in the early stages of their careers. We’ll see you all at the next gathering!
On Friday, Campus Ministry welcomed three Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet to have lunch with our students! The girls had a great time listening to the Sisters, making them bracelets, and talking about what activities they can come back to participate in. We think there may be some CSJ karaoke in our future! Thank you to Sr. Linda Markway, Sr. Marianne Keena, and Sr. Laura Gruber!

If you were a fan of SJA basketball or volleyball in the early 90s, then you may know the Folkl name. Kristin Folkl Kaburakis ‘94 brought her volleyball number out of retirement for a very special student to wear. Her daughter! Sophia is a sophomore at St. Joe and is continuing her mother’s legacy on the volleyball court.
It means so much to us that our alumnae send their daughters to SJA!

We are proud to recognize our long-time Athletic Director, Maureen McVey, for her remarkable 36 years of service to the Academy. Coach McVey has announced that she will retire at the end of this academic year.
Since joining St. Joe in 1989, Maureen has been a cornerstone of our school community, coaching soccer and leading our athletic department with unwavering passion, expertise, and commitment. Her influence has shaped the lives of countless student-athletes. Under her leadership, the Angels achieved the national #1 ranking in 2002, secured five state soccer championships, and claimed 17 district titles. Her exceptional record has earned her a place in four prestigious Halls of Fame: the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame, Missouri Hall of Fame, Missouri Soccer Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and the UMSL Soccer Hall of Fame.
In 2013, Coach McVey took on the role of Athletic Director, during which time our teams achieved 16 state championships and numerous district titles across various sports.
Coach McVey will continue as Head Soccer Coach through this school year, while we begin the search for a new athletic director, followed by the appointment of a new soccer coach for the 2025-26 school year.
This school year marks a significant milestone for St. Joseph’s Academy - the 50th anniversary of our remarkable 1st state championship. This incredible legacy began with the 1974-75 Basketball Team and launched five decades of winning teams. Notably, SJA holds the highest number of state championships among all-girls schools in the State of Missouri, at 65 to date!
To celebrate this historic occasion, we are hosting a "Reunion of Champions." The celebration event will be held during Angel Fest on October 12, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The day promises to be memorable and filled with fun, camaraderie, and the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates and coaches.

Thank you to Dr. Kerri Morgan '92 for a beautiful commencement address during the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2024 last night! She talked about her athletic and professional achievements and how there's not a correct path for every journey, that you need to embrace new opportunities that come along. She encouraged our grads to know and trust their strengths and to pursue their passions. She congratulated the Class of 2024 and welcomed them into SJA Alumnae Association. Congrats again to our newest Alumnae!

We hope to see you there!
Thank you again to our amazing alumnae! We are celebrating at the Academy today because your generosity helped us clinch 1st place in the Girls Schools Unite Alumnae Giving Competition. Nearly 14% of our alumnae made a gift to The St. Joe Fund and what's more, we raised over $62,000, which will make a difference in the lives of our students as we continue to prepare them to go out and make a profound impact in the world. Your gifts to The St. Joe Fund directly impact academics, athletics, the arts, campus ministry programs, scholarships, our state-of-the-art facilities, and so much more.
And congratulations to the Class of 1996, as they grabbed the top spot at the beginning of the competition and never let go. They had an astounding 40.2% class participation, followed closely by the Class of 1972 with 37.4% participation.
Thank you for continuing the "Not I, But We" spirit by giving back to St. Joe. We can't wait for next year!
We won!! Thank you so much to everyone who donated! We had 13.95% alumnae participation that helped us make our way to 1st place. That’s over 1,100 SJA alumnae giving to the St. Joe Fund! We couldn’t have done it without you all (and Bud Stein).
Not I, But We is what brought home the win!!
Our Angels in the Musical R***e did a fantastic job tonight! They truly brought the Disney magic to life on the stage with each number. Make sure to come see the show Friday night and Saturday night at 7 p.m.!
The St. Joe Fund helps support the arts and our incredibly talented students who dedicate their time. Tonight is your last chance to give to Girls Schools Unite! Let's go Angels!

Here are the Day 3 class rankings for the Girls Schools Unite Giving Challenge. Wow! The alumnae from the late 90s are really coming through! You have a few more hours today to make your gift to The St. Joe Fund! Just a reminder, this is a participation challenge so every alumna gift counts. We lost by 15 donors last year, let's not let that happen this year.
Make your gift to The St. Joe Fund via Venmo or online at https://www.sja1840.org/giving/make-a-gift
Only 12 hours left! Look at how close we are
to that #1 spot!
Another alum from '72 said, "I hope that SJA graduates
will have an impact on their families, communities and
beyond to grow as leaders and multi-culturally." It's
time for the final push, so get your classmates ready!
We have also heard the call for more Bud Stein
content. He is warming up and ready to convince more
alumnae to give to this challenge and the St. Joe Fund.
Stay tuned!

Here is a Day 2 update on the top 5 SJA classes in the Girls Schools Unite competition. The class of 1996 is still holding onto the lead, but 1998 is so close to that top spot.
Help your class out in the rankings and make an impact on current and future Angels at the same time! You have until midnight tomorrow to make a gift to The St. Joe Fund. You can give via Venmo or online at https://www.sja1840.org/giving/make-a-gift
Current standings! Alumnae, don't forget to
check with your classmates and remind them about
Girls Schools Unite! We are very grateful for the
donations we have received so far. Our alumnae have
many great reasons they are giving back to St. Joe.
An alum from 2011 says, "I hope more gals can have
the same beautiful, nurturing, and positive high school
experience that I did. SJA helped me grow into the
person that I am today, and I regularly feel the impact
SJA continues to have on me."
A 1996 alum says, "St. Joe gave me the education,
confidence, and friendships that have enriched and
inspired my life."
What is your reason to give?
The 4th Annual Girls Schools Unite Giving Challenge is underway! The alumnae in this photo know you can bring home the win! Remind all of your alumnae friends and family that every donation St. Joe receives during this friendly competition goes toward the St. Joe Fund. This is a participation challenge so every alumna gift not only counts but it will impact the lives of current and future Angels.
The school with the highest percentage of alumnae donations will be announced on Friday. Stay tuned for updates on those standings, but in the meantime, congrats to the Class of 1996 on topping the leaderboard among SJA classes!
Attention Angel Alumnae! Girls Schools Unite (GSU) begins at midnight! This friendly competition will continue until midnight on Thursday, May 9th. Your gift not only helps us have the largest percentage of alumnae gifts, but supports both current and future Angels through the St. Joe Fund.
As our Seniors are singing, St. Joe is where hopes are nurtured and dreams come true. The St. Joe Fund allows more students to experience all the wonderful things our school has to offer.
