Since 1938, the US has recognized November 11th as our nation’s annual observance of Veterans Day. On this day, we recognize all of our veterans and give our thanks to them for their sacrifices and honorable service. Swipe to read the letter from Stanford’s President, Marc Tessier-Lavigne.
We invite you to join us for the first weekly OMAC Coffee Chat of the Spring ‘21 quarter. We will be welcoming Anthony Garcia as our special guest. A St. Mary’s University, and Cornell University (MBA) alum, he’s also a former U.S. Army MEDEVAC pilot, he’s the founder and CEO of several companies including his latest, Purepost, Inc., and he’s an incredible advocate for PTSD awareness. Tim Hsia is a West Point '04 grad (where he double majored in Environmental Engineering and Military History) and commissioned as an infantry officer in the US Army. Tim deployed twice to Iraq while on active duty. Tim left active duty in 2010 to attend Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and Law School. In 2014 he received a JD and MBA from Stanford. He was a ROTC instructor for Stanford cadets while in grad school. Tim is the founder of Context Ventures and Media Mobilize. He is a cofounder and board member at Service to School and is a board member at the Marines Memorial Association (Club & Hotel).

The Stanford Military-Affiliated Community is invited to attend Above and Beyond the Call of Duty: A Conversation with World War II Veteran and Medal of Honor Recipient Hershel "Woody" Williams on Monday, March 8th at 6:00pm PST.
Mr. Williams is a 97-year-old Marine and World War II veteran who is one of two living Medal of Honor Recipients from World War II and the only living Medal of Honor Recipient from the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Mr. Williams will deliver a talk on the importance of bravery, courage, sacrifice, and integrity followed by a Q&A session.

The OMAC coffee chat this Friday, 26 February, will be featuring Senior Vice President of Product at BMNT Inc., U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and Stanford Alum, William Treseder! Join us at 10:00am PST to hear William’s story, learn about BMNT-related opportunities at Stanford, and to network with other members of the Stanford military-affiliated community.
In advance of the looming transfer application deadline, we will be hosting another virtual information session on Sunday, February 21st at 11:00am PST. Our next info-session on the 21st of February will include previous panelists Alice Petty, Joel Johnson, Ting Wong, and Josh Davenport, as well as new panelist Trenton Hicks. Trenton is a U.S. Army veteran, where he served as a Signals Intelligence Specialist. His major is undeclared. Fun fact about Trenton: He has never played a round of golf without losing all of his balls.

Introducing the last two student-veterans participating in tomorrow’s info-session, our own OMAC student-staff, Tina Wong and Josh Davenport.
Tina is a former Healthcare Specialist in the U.S. Army. She is majoring in Economics, and plans on graduating in ‘24. Fun fact about Tina: Her phone number differs by that of Apple headquarters by one digit.
Josh is also a former Healthcare Specialist in the U.S. Army. He is majoring in Environmental Systems Engineering, Fresh Water focus, with a minor in Arabic, and plans on graduating in ‘24.
Fun fact about Josh: He utilizes Ch. 31 (VR&E) benefits to pay for his Stanford education. (4/4)
The third panelist attending this Saturday’s (01/23/21) info-session is back by popular demand. In case you missed him at the first session, we introduce Joel Johnson. He’s a former Arabic Cryptologic Linguist in the U.S. Marine Corps. He’s a transfer student majoring in Symbolic Systems, and he plans on graduating in 2022. He’s also the Vice President of the Stanford Undergraduate Association of Veterans (SUAV). Fun fact about Joel, he has never won a board game. (3/4)
The next panelist we are featuring is the great Dr. Alice Petty. She serves as Stanford’s Academic Advisor and Coordinator of the Transfer Advising Program, meaning she is the Academic Advisor to nearly all Stanford undergraduate veterans. She also has two uncles, Fred and Tony, both of whom are retired Air Force veterans. Fun fact about Alice, her first career was as an archaeologist, and she once discovered a 4,500 year old, Early Bronze-Age tomb at the site of Umm el-Marra, Syria. (2/4)
