Please join us in congratulating Ana Murguia, the Special Education Programs Educator of the Month! πŸŽ‰

The 2023-24 school year marks the fifth year that Murguia has been a Special Education teacher, and we were excited to recognize her as Educator of the Month in May.

When asked what Murguia loves most about teaching, she stated, β€œI love seeing students make progress throughout the year. Seeing students strive to reach their goals makes me feel like I am truly making a difference.” 🧑

Murguia chose a career in education because she genuinely loves being with students and helping them learn.

πŸš‘ A fun fact about Murguia is that prior to becoming a teacher, she was an EMT for eight months!

Throughout the week, students learned how to upcycle everyday materials to give them a new purpose and help reduce our carbon footprint. Logan, a student at Kohl Open learned that he could make items from cardboard β€” even Thor’s helmet and hammer and Captain America’s shield!

In anticipation of Father's Day, students in Leslie Filio’s summer school class decorated cards and worked through a lesson highlighting words centered on Father's Day.

These fun activities allowed students to work on reinforcing skills, which is a key focus of the SJCOE Special Education Programs extended school year.

Filio's class is one of two at Evelyn Costa Elementary School, the newest school in Lammersville Unified School District. SJCOE Special Education Programs are also holding extended school year classes at other schools in the district, as well as in sites at Tracy Unified and Manteca Unified school districts and SJCOE-operated schools.
