As a a catalyst for individual and community action for sustainability, SAVE is committed to fostering the next generation of environmental stewards. We were proud to honor this group of high school and college students at our annual Awards Night last Tuesday, May 9.
Winners of the 2023 NW Ohio District Science Day Planet Earth Sustainability Award included Samuel Edward Kerrigan, 565 Academy, Grade 9; Emily Clare Timmerman and Audrey G. Nixon, Ottawa Hills High School, Grade 9; and Halle Ann Jones
Hilltop High School, West Unity, Grade 8 (not pictured). Winners of the SAVE Environmental Leadership Scholarship were Eva Skarbinski, who will attend the University of Michigan, and Garrett Ody, who will attend Ohio University.

Happy Native Plant Month!
On July 18, 2019, Governor Mike DeWine signed a bill into law designating April as Ohio Native Plant Month. This made Ohio the first state in the country to have a law recognizing the importance of native plants for an entire month! Check out the interactive map on this site that shows where native plant providers are located across Ohio.
Ohio Native Plant Month On July 18, 2019, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed legislation designating the month of April as Ohio Native Plant Month. Our primary goal is educating the public about the benefits of planting Ohio's native plants and removing invasive plants to improve Ohio's ecosystem.

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY!
Beginning in 2022, S.A.V.E. will award two $500 scholarships to high seniors from Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan to assist with their college/university tuition, books, fees and or any other aspect of their education for their freshman year. Applicants need not be a member of SAVE to apply, but must have educational plans to major in an environmental studies program, an environmental science program, or any course of study in which the environment and care for the Earth plays an integral part such as art, religion, sociology etc.
