***Drivers Stay Alert***
Every year Upstate Trauma treats patients who are injured from motor vehicles involved in horse and buggy accidents. Let's do our part by staying extra vigilant and exercise caution in an effort to keep these riders safe!!
-Slow down when you see a buggy in either lane! Most travel 5-10 mph, you will approach it much faster than you think.
-Only pass when its safe and legal to do so!! When pulling back into the travel lane, the American Trauma Society recommends leaving 20 ft in front of the horse.
Most importantly get off your phones and pay attention to the road!

With today being the official transition from spring to summer, we would like to highlight and thank the outstanding community partner collaboration that has occurred this past spring.
For over 20 years ‘Let’s Not Meet by Accident’ (LNMBA) has been a part of the trauma center’s injury prevention education, however in the past year we revamped this presentation and incorporated school districts, fire departments, ambulance and police agencies, as well as funeral homes and district attorney's offices. Students identify driving distractors, then conduct a simulated crash scenario of a mass casualty incident.
In 2024, Upstate was able to reach nearly 1,000 teenage students across 6 different districts, stretching across county lines. This was a 129% increase from the previous year.
We would like to thank all of the participating districts, but a special shoutout to Cazenovia Fire Department Cazenovia Central School District for allowing us to use their district as a model for a promotional video! Finally, thank you to Upstate Education Communications, Media Production Team and UpstateAir (Drone Team) for assisting in this production.
If your district is interested in participating next spring, keep an eye out for a SurveyMonkey sign up link in October of 2024!
