Leila is a dedicated Board Member and Volunteer for The Salvation Army. Our community is blessed with her dedication to service. Congratulations, Leila!
Dedicated was the most common word used when describing Leila Dollison. She was recently chosen as the recipient of the 71st Exchange Club Helen Rainer Book of Golden Deeds Award. She was honored at a surprise luncheon held in her honor.
Leila is always giving back to her community. It is evident when you meet her that she is caring, nurturing, dependable and passionate. Her volunteer work is truly admirable.
Leila is an invaluable asset to The Salvation Army of Tifton. She serves on the Advisory Board and is a past chair. Through her work there, she is actively meeting the needs of others in Tift County. She is a leader in all of their projects, including canned food drives, Thanksgiving Turkey Boxes, the Family Store, Red Kettle Bell Ringing and shelter work. Most recently, she was trained as an Emergency Disaster Services volunteer.
Leila also loves working with children and youth. This has led her to being a part of the program staff at The Salvation Army’s Camp Grandview, a week long residential camp. She never stops, from the raising of the flag until late night devotion. Leila rides the bus with the children and never misses an opportunity to share the love of Christ with the children.
While her full time job is as the Tift County Elections Supervisor, Leila used her knowledge to voluntarily teach special needs students at the high school about the process of voting. She is also always willing to learn and develop new skills herself.
One nomination said “her continued volunteering suggests a deep seated desire to make a positive impact.” Outside of The Salvation Army, Leila volunteers for the “Keep ‘Em Warm Coat Drive,” on the Tifwilar Reunion Committee and Adopt A Mile Trash Pick Up. She is also an active member of the Kappa PSI Sigman Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority.
Other nominations said that to know Leila is to love her and see her passion for making Tifton and Tift County better. Her commitment to serving others is truly admirable and she is an inspiration. Leila has been married to her husband Ricky for 42 years and they have served together in various areas. They have two children and two grandchildren.
The Book of Golden Deeds Award is a national project of the Exchange Club that recognizes dedicated volunteers who give endless hours of their time and talents toward making their communities better places to live. The Golden Deeds award is the longest running project of the Exchange Club of Tifton. The Tifton award was renamed in honor of longtime chairperson Helen Rainer, who passed away in 2013.
Cody Dixon, Exchange Club of Tifton President, presented Leila with the award.
