The 4th annual Summer Spike event was a hit!
The event provided free entry to the first 300 children 18 and younger, allowing for 204 free admissions on Wednesday, July 10.
Our child nutrition and wellness team had the opportunity to share information about our program giving insight about dairy, berries and more. One berry highlight shared was the blueberry. This delicious berry is packed with nutrients that support brain function and memory. Find out more fun facts and a recipe is below!
Along with free entry, children enjoyed a free meal from one of our summer meal sites, provided by Topeka USD 501, severing 265 meals.

Governor Laura Kelly has proclaimed June “Summer Meals Across Kansas Month.” This proclamation emphasizes the importance of ensuring no child goes hungry. Through the Summer Food Program, Kansas children 18 years of age and younger continue to have access to nutritious meals even when schools aren’t in session.
