KHLAAC was established in 1974 as the Kansas Advisory Committee on Mexican American Affairs (KACMAA) to heightening cultural awareness among Hispanics, particularly highlighting Mexican heritage through various outreach activities. Recognizing the need for political and economic empowerment, KACMAA shifted its focus in 1980 to unify various groups into a single political entity, heighten awareness of the political process, and facilitate economic development by working closely with national resources and organizations. The commission's name evolved until established as KHLAAC in 2007. Today, KHLAAC continues to advance opportunities for Hispanics & Latinos in Kansas, fostering self-reliance and community development.

Chamber launches 'Mi Negocio Academy' to empower local Latino entrepreneurs The Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce is launching a comprehensive program aimed at providing essential tools and knowledge to kickstart successful business ventures for people in the local Latino community.

Our monthly KHLAAC Commission Meeting will take place tomorrow, December 12th from 11am-12pm. Our friends at the Alzheimer's Association - Heart of America Chapter will be presenting about the expanding bilingual services they offer and the latest in research and treatment. Latinos are 5X more likely to develop dementia, so this is a very important issue to our community.
