Our Story
Martha's Vineyard Family Center is a program of Martha's Vineyard Community Services Early Childhood Programs and is funded through grants from the
Massachusetts Children's Trust Fund and Department of Early Education & Care. The mission of the MV Family Center is to provide resources and support to assist all families in becoming as strong and secure as possible. The center is family centered, community-based and serve to connect families with each other as well as to other resources within the community. The center’s environment is welcoming, accessible and respectful of the value and beliefs of the family. Staff are culturally competent and reflect the cultural, linguistic, racial, and ethnic diversity of the population of the community. Parents are partners in program decision-making and governance of the family centers.
The MV Family Center provides education and support to parents of children ages 0-8 including the pre-natal/ pre-adpotive period, as well as to providers who care for them. Our “home-base” is the Family Center located at MV Regional High School where parents can take their children to play, find information on community resources, access parenting education, find literacy support and network with other families.
Services include:
Playgroups
Parenting classes and discussion groups
Family activities
Support to Early Education and Care Groups
Consultation on parenting concerns and child development
Family visits (home or elsewhere)
Leadership opportunities for parents
Transition supports
Swap shop of equipment and clothing
Assistance with meeting basic needs
Referrals to other island resources
Community collaboration and planning
All activities are free of charge due to grants from the Massachusetts Children’s Trust Fund and the Department of Early Education and Care.
Childcare or childcare reimbursement and transportation are provided for all activities upon request.
