Boston University, Washington Programs (BU Study Abroad - Global Programs) The Boston University Washington Center is part of BU-Study Abroad.
The Center runs two programs: the Washington Internship Program and the Washington Multimedia Communications Program. Students can participate during the Spring, Summer or Fall semesters. An amazing image was recently unearthed by the National Park Service - an image of Douglass standing in front of his home at 320 A St. NE in Washington D.C. It's an incredible reminder of the history that surrounds us today. And, you can even swing by the house as it still stands!

Duke Ellington, the renowned jazz musician, called DC home and was a mainstay on what was known as "Black Broadway" centered around U Street. According to Library of Congress records, Ellington started playing piano at 7 years old. By the time he was 20, he had formed his first band and moved to New York City. He would go on to become one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
DC's Duke Ellington School for the Arts bares his name, and his legacy is felt throughout the city.

Carter G. Woodson is considered the father of African American history. Woodson was the son of freed Virginian slaves and went on to earn a Ph.D. in history from Harvard, the second African American to earn this distinction.
He founded the Association for the Study of African American History at his home at 1538 Ninth St. NW in Washington. Today the home is designated as a National Historic Site.
This Black History Month, we're celebrating the amazing culture and heritage of Washington locals who have made the city an incredible place to live, learn, and work.
Like Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955). The daughter of former slaves, Mary was a leading educator and civil rights activist. She founded Bethune-Cookman University in Florida and the National Council of Negro Women, and served as an administrator to President Franklin Roosevelt.

As part of International Education Week, BUDC students tackled defense and disinformation with the European Union in the United States on Wednesday evening.
Along with Military Attache, Brigadier General Fritz Urbach, Political Counselor, Santiago Monsalve, and Washington Program Consortium guests from NYU, Loyola University, and U. Illinois, our cohort learned more about the current state of global defense and dismantling the disinformation that challenges international peace.
