This Black History Month, we're celebrating the amazing culture and heritage of Washington locals who have made the city an incredible place to live, learn, and work.

Like Mary McLeod Bethune (1875-1955). The daughter of former slaves, Mary was a leading educator and civil rights activist. She founded Bethune-Cookman University in Florida and the National Council of Negro Women, and served as an administrator to President Franklin Roosevelt.
