Legacy Community Health - Montrose (FQHC) and the School-Based Health Alliance launched the Houston City Work Group, 1 of the 4 city-level groups informing the School-Based Health Care Coordination Initiative (SBHCC)🌟 We gathered with a vibrant 24 diverse community members, including local students, parents/caregivers, school staff and leadership, school-based health centers staff, FQHCs, and more. It was an enriching 8-hour launch day of learning, sharing, and community building.
Everyone played a crucial role, contributing their insights and experiences as we discussed the future of school-based health care. Our conversations were about strengthening our community through collaboration, trust, and accessibility.
We’re inspired by words like "Unity" and "Collaboration" shared by our members when describing today’s initiative. Looking ahead, we'll continue this momentum with focus groups, surveys, and monthly calls to ensure everyone's voice is heard and valued.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the School-Based Health Alliance (SBHA) are recruiting for a Mental Health ECHO: Integrating Mental and Behavioral Health Care in School Settings. School-based health center staff, school health personnel, and others caring for the health of children in school-based settings are encouraged to join us. This ECHO will increase participant knowledge, confidence, and skill to support integration of mental and behavioral health care into primary care in school settings as well as the use of local Pediatric Mental Health Care Access programs.
This ECHO will meet 2x per month at 2:00 pm – 3:00pm CT/ 3:00pm – 4:00pm ET on the following dates: April 8, 2024, April 22, 2024, May 13, 2024, May 29, 2024, June 10, 2024, June 24, 2024.

Funds have been made available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to identify potential new and existing SBHC sites with the opportunity for expansion and to impact Connecticut student needs. Services may include mental/behavioral health, primary care, outreach, equipment, telehealth, mobile unit, dental health care, and health promotion/education.

In addition, one award will be granted to a group committed to working on state-level SBHC infrastructure, including affiliation with SBHA, with the aim of equipping the group to independently offer technical assistance to SBHCs.
It is recommended, but not required, that interested parties complete the interest form to express interest by Monday, March 18, 2024. Additional information about the RFA, upcoming due dates, the grant period, and other pertinent information will be shared later. 📌SBHA is hosting two FAQ sessions regarding this funding opportunity to share insights and guidelines and address questions. Interested parties can attend either of the two sessions. Attendance is encouraged but not required to submit a full application. Sessions will be recorded.
