Washington Improv Theater
Washington Improv Theater is the District's premier destination for longform improv. The answer is: a lot. And more each year.
WIT's mission is to unleash the creative power of improv in DC:
-We engage audiences with performances that exhilarate and inspire.
-We ignite the spirit of play in Washington with a revolutionary training program.
-We create a home for improv, connected to the life of the city. For over a decade WIT has been exploring just how much awesomeness people can create together when they agree to do it without a script. The three aspects of WIT are shows, classes, and community.

“A big part of improvisation is trying to find ways to say yes to things instead of saying no. Improv gives you a different perspective on how you move through life.”
WIT Artistic/Executive Director Mark Chalfant is in today’s Axios, sharing a bit about the beginnings of his career at WIT and advice for those seeking a job in the arts. Check out the article at the link in our bio.

❤️ to when WIT alums Jaime Fearer (left), Aparna Nancherla (center), and Stacey Higgins (right) took part in the 2009 edition of Improvapalooza.
Fast-forward just eight years and Aparna was named one of the "50 Funniest People Right Now" in 2017 by Rolling Stone Magazine (on the same list as Kate McKinnon, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ali Wong, Leslie Jones, Maria Bamford, Amy Schumer, Issa Rae, and Melissa McCarthy to name just a few comedic icons you've probably never heard of.)
What can we say? Aparna's always been in great company! ❤️

Improvapalooza 2024 - Washington Improv Theater Five nights of daring improv experiments!
The DC Commission on the Arts & Humanities has just announced the DC Area Theatre Census and the DC Area Dance Census, capturing key information about the local theatre and dance ecosystems in the Greater Washington, DC region. The kickoff to these two separate censuses will be held on Wednesday, Aug 21, from 6pm-8pm at Whitlow's DC. Local artists and organizations may learn more about the census, offer feedback, and network with fellow creatives during this social event.
Both censuses open on October 2 and close on November 22, with full results expected to be delivered to the public during the first quarter of 2025!
If you are a theatre or dance professional working in any realm of the local theatre or dance industry, be sure to visit www.DCTheatreCensus.org or www.DCDanceCensus.org to make your voice count!
