Board of Commissioners' Live Meeting
The Washington County Commissioners have hired a new Finance Director, Adam Petris. Adam, who was born and raised in Washington County, currently resides in Cecil Township.
Chairman Nick Sherman stated, "Adam has been serving as the acting director for the past eight months and has performed his duties exceptionally. After an extensive search, we realized that the right hire was right here in the county. His three and a half years as a county employee have given him broad experience of our departments and working with their employees, which will serve him well in this position."
In his new role, Mr. Petris will be responsible for preparing the annual budget for the county and supervising it throughout the year. He will also schedule budget hearings for all county departments before the County Commissioners and provide advice on fiscal matters. Additionally, the Finance Office will handle the application of certain state and federal grants.
“I am eager to grow in my new role and to serve the community of Washington County. I would like to express my gratitude to the Commissioners for their confidence in me and for this opportunity,” Petris stated.
Adam earned a degree in accounting from St. Vincent and began his career with BNY Mellon before joining the county in 2020 as a Financial Analyst.
Sherman has emphasized the close collaboration with Adam to oversee expenditures and establish our budget. Recently, a new process has been implemented to monitor monthly expenses. It is imperative to exercise careful oversight of every tax dollar.
