The festival itself runs from Sep. 6th-8th, featuring fireworks, boat rides, children's activities, food, and more in Waterford, NY. If you can't make the festival, make sure you stop by one the Troy viewing locations to see the spectacle!

As part of our budget process, the City holds workshops for each department. Workshops are where we look at the details of specific line items before the presentation. The presentation is more of a high level overview, rather than a focus on the particulars. Workshops are held at the Watervliet Cultural Center before Council Meetings and begin at 5pm. The schedule is as follows:
9/5/24 Water & Sewer
9/19/24 Police & Fire
10/3/24 DPW & Admin
Big shout out to Roman Khanafiev of Giuseppe's Pizzeria & Deli
Today he presented me with a check to purchase a new handicapped swing that was broken by a few kids.
Roman contacted me and said that he saw our post that it was damaged and wanted to help in replacing the swing.
The swing is meant for our children with disabilities and not for older kids.
Thank you Roman for your generosity and caring for our kids.
ARE YOU A TRACK/FIELD STUDENT RUNNER?
This year I have added a new category to our race, “The Melique Garcia Olympian Trophy”. If you are a High school or College Student enrolled in Track & Field, you are eligible to receive this new trophy and Melique Garcia will present the award the day of the race. This provides further recognition to Melique’s accomplishment by participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics and this will hope to inspire others to see that it is possible for everyone. Melique will be available to meet with all runners on the day of the race.
Please register for the race but you MUST email me so that we can include you in this category. My email address is [email protected]. The link to register for the race is https://zippy-reg.com/online_reg/?e=2087

After last night’s storm postponed the paving of 19th Street, it will commence tonight. Starting west by Grotto Court, moving east toward the railroad tracks, then down to 6th Ave and eventually 2nd Ave. The pavers will work hard to get as far as they can each night, so remember, NO PARKING on 19th Street from 7:00pm to 7:00am. We don’t want to see anyone get towed!

City of Watervliet Mayor Charles Patricelli announced today that he has appointed Jasmine Norman to replace Peter Torncello as City Court Jasmine Norman (2).jpg Judge.
Norman, a Watervliet resident, will commence her duties on the bench at the end of August, when Torncello, who has held the position since 2022, announced he will retire. Norman, who holds a Bachelor of Arts as an Economics major and Government minor from Smith College, will join Judge Thomas Lamb on the city court bench. Judge Lamb has served more than three decades as a Family Court Judge. Judge Lamb said that “he is very excited about her appointment and feels she will an excellent person for the position and looks forward to her becoming a member of the team.”
“I first met Jasmine when she volunteered to be a member of the Police Review Board,” Mayor Patricelli said. “I found Jasmine to be quite interesting, well-spoken and caring. I was impressed with her work on the Police Review Board, so I appointed her to the Watervliet Board of Ethics, where she is currently serving. The City of Watervliet is fortunate to have had two great attorneys living in the city to fill this position.
Norman will assume the position for a six-year term when Judge Torncello, who has served the city in the past as Corporation Counsel, City Councilman and for the past two years as City Court Judge, retires in August. Judge Torncello said “Being the Watervliet City Court judge has been the highlight of my professional career. I want to thank Mayor Patricelli for giving me the opportunity to serve this amazing community. I hope I made him, and the residents of the city proud of their justice system. I would be remiss if I did not also thank our outstanding staff who work tirelessly each day to make the court proceedings efficient and comfortable for all. Finally, I have had the pleasure to meet and chat with Judge Jasmine Norman. I am thrilled with her selection, and confident that city court is in great hands.”
Norman, who resides in Watervliet with her husband and two children, graduated from SUNY Buffalo Law School in May of 2014. She was admitted to the New York State Bar Association in March of 2015. Norman is a 2014 Minority Bar of Western New York Commencement Award Recipient and a Suzanne E. Tomkins Women, Children and Social Justice Advocacy Fellowship Award Recipient.
Mrs. Norman said that “Throughout my legal career, I regularly appeared before administrative law judges, City Court, judges, Family Court judges, and County Court judges. Being a judge was never “the goal”, so to speak; however, colleagues, family, friends, and now Mayor Patricelli, would tell me that they envisioned me as a judge one day. And here we are. I am excited for this next chapter in my life in Watervliet. This city has been good to me and my family and I’m eager to perform the job with excellence in that I continue the work of Judge Torncello and work seamlessly with Judge Lamb.
Since being admitted to the NYS Bar Association, Norman has worked with the New York Department of State Office of General Counsel, Albany, NY Excelsior Fellowship Program; as a Senior Conflict Defender with the Schenectady County Office of the Conflict Defender, Schenectady from 2015-2018; as a visiting Law Professor at Albany Law School from 2021-2022; worked as a Senior Licensing Attorney in the State Division of Licensing Services from 2018-2023 and currently works as a Deputy General Counsel Litigator for the New York State Office of Cannabis Management.
