On Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:00am the Northern Illinois Food Bank will be hosting a Produce Plus distribution. Anyone needing help is welcome to join us to receive free groceries. No ID, documentation or pre-approval is required. All are welcome. Distribution is first-come, first-served, while supplies last.

This is a one-of-kind in depth Mexican cultural experience you don’t want to miss in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month! Join us for an immersive Mexican cultural experience as we have instructor Chef Atzimba Perez at Colores Mexicano teach us how to make our very own perfect tortilla!
After finishing up with our tortilla making workshop, we will indulge in an authentic Mexican meal followed by an opportunity to explore the Gift Shop, offering handmade Mexican clothing, tropical decor, Mexican jewelry, art and other cultural treasures.
Next, we will head over for a visit to the National Museum of Mexican Art, home to Mexican art collections, including more than 7,000 seminal pieces from ancient Mexico to the present.
The cost of $109 includes Tortilla Master Class workshops, materials, instructor fee, meal, and roundtrip motorcoach transportation. Bus departs at PAJC 8:45 am and returns by 4:00 pm.

The Coalition to Reduce Recidivism (C2RR) is on the move again!
C2RR is actively supporting engaging youth events, such as the WNBA Basketball Game held on Sunday, August 25th. The Chicago Wintrust Arena was alive with youth watching Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky face off against Aja Wilson from the Las Vegas Aces, showcasing their skills. The game remained tight until the end when Aja made the winning shot, concluding the game on a high note. A big thank you to C2RR for sponsoring this exciting youth event and be sure to keep an eye out for similar upcoming events in the future.

Lake County Courthouse - 19th Judicial Circuit Court Tour Highlights!
Attention, Youth Community! If you couldn't make it to the recent Lake County Courthouse tour held at the 19th Judicial Circuit Court on July 26th, you missed out on a fantastic chance to gain insight into the inner workings of our legal system. Participants had the opportunity to observe firsthand how justice is served and engaged with legal professionals who shed light on their roles in ensuring fairness for all. On Thursday, July 18th, the Coalition to Reduce Recidivism hosted the 2024 "All Eyes on Me" Annual Youth Summit. Thank you to Andrew "Big Drew" Gadsden for being the moderator at this year's event.
The 2024 Youth Summit was held at the amazing Eleanor Murkey Community Resource Center, located at the College of Lake County's Lakeshore Campus. About 125 high school students from Waukegan, North Chicago, and Zion High Schools participated in this C2RR event. All high school participants were part of the Job Center of Lake County and Lake County Workforce Development's Summer Youth Employment Program.
Participants were engaged in a series of break-out sessions led by a dynamic group of presenters:
* Financial Literacy - Holly Kim, Lake County Treasurer
* Mental Health & Healthy Relationships - Dr. Ciera McNeal
* Conflict Resolution - Lake County Peacemakers
* Applying for FAFSA/Scholarships - Demond D. Edwards
* Social Media Management - Carlos "Boy Los Crazy" Smith
This year's panelists included Dr. Avril Gordon - Tu Pharmacy; Deputy Chief Craig Neal - Waukegan Police Department; Dr. Ciera McNeal - Carmel High School and Adriana Gonzalez - WPS District #60.
