We are immensely proud of CDT Lauren Westerfeld, who completed a stellar 3-week summer internship with the Special Operations Task Force Engineer Squadron!

Lauren tackled a $71M micro-grid project, mastering new simulation tools in a week, running 10,000 iteration simulations, and uncovering a critical design flaw. Her insights are now shaping our electrical power strategy!

She also excelled in the Enabler Training Course, earning high praise for her skills in heavy weapons training and more.

Lauren’s journey from Cadet to innovator showcases the incredible potential within our ranks. Here’s to her bright future in the Army!

Cadets conduct applied research to help build strong cybersecurity defenses!

Sarah Rutherford and Kevin Lin (‘22) presented their paper, “Predicting Phishing Vulnerabilities Using Machine Learning,” at the 2022 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Southeast Con.

Sarah and Kevin motivated their work by highlighting many significant breaches, such as the Colonial Pipeline, that started as a phishing email. To accomplish this, they partnered with the USMA CIO/G6 to acquire data to build machine learning models to predict if a user would fall for a phishing attack. They achieved an 86% accuracy rate while minimizing false positives/negatives.

This study could significantly improve how organizations approach cybersecurity training and is ongoing in the Cyber Research Center.

Five faculty from EECS completed CivMX last week at Camp Buckner. This opportunity provided the participants with an experience that is similar to the Cadet Field Training, one that yearlings (sophomores) undergo.

Congratulations to Mr. Charles Schooler, Mr. Frank Casabianca, Dr. Maria Ebling, Mr. Michael Kapralos, and Mr. Pratheek Manjunath for proving that EECS indeed has a tough team, both in the class and on the field!

Recently, Dr. Patrick Baker, DEVCOM-ARL director (right), attended the annual Projects Day at West Point - The U.S. Military Academy, where cadets showcased more than 400 research and capstone projects.
