****Traffic Advisory for Sunday, September 22, 2024****

Event: Weymouth Irish Heritage Day Parade
Location: Union Street, beginning at the Hamilton Primary School to Camelot Way
Time: 11:00am
Duration: Approximately 1 hour

A parking ban is in effect on both sides of Union Street and Camelot Way from 8:00am until conclusion of the parade. In addition, there will be no parking allowed in the first row of the Municipal Parking Lot along Camelot Way.

Union Street will be temporarily closed from the Hamilton Primary School to Pleasant Street.

At 10:45am, traffic coming from Hingham/Rockland will be blocked at Liberty Street. Abington Street in Hingham will be used as an alternate route.

The Weymouth Police Department will be present to manage temporary traffic delays along the route. If you need to travel to or from your home during this time please plan accordingly.

We are pleased to announce the advancement of Sergeant Andrew Enos to the rank of Lieutenant. Lieutenant Enos has exhibited outstanding leadership and commitment while serving as the Mass Care Section Chief, overseeing Cooling/Warming Centers and Emergency Shelters, as well as spearheading the development of a regional shelter plan.

In his new capacity as Lieutenant, he will continue to oversee Mass Care while also playing a role in community outreach and recruitment within the Administrative Services division of the department. This promotion serves as a well-deserved acknowledgment of Lieutenant Enos's diligence and achievements, and we look forward to his continued development and contributions to the department.

We are thrilled to celebrate the promotion of Lt. Frank Younie to the role of Deputy Director within the Weymouth Emergency Management Department. Deputy Director Younie's dedication and commitment over his 18-year tenure have been outstanding, and his leadership as the Operation Section chief has been instrumental in the team's success. As he takes on this new role, we are confident that Deputy Director Younie will continue to excel and bring fresh perspectives to enhance our Emergency Management initiatives. This promotion is a well-deserved recognition of Deputy Director Younie's hard work and achievements, and we look forward to seeing his continued growth and contributions to the organization. Three tornadoes rated EF-1 struck Cape Cod, MA. Straight-line wind damage was also observed from Dennisport to Chatham.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed a heat advisory on Eastern Norfolk county from 8:00AM Monday (7/15), to 8:00 PM Wednesday (7/17) with heat index values up to 103 expected.

Weymouth residents looking to escape the upcoming extreme heat can find comfort at the Tufts Library, 46 Broad St. Tufts will be open Monday (July 15th), Tuesday(July 16th), and Wednesday (July 17th) from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.

******IMPORTANT INFORMATION JULY 3RD FIREWORKS*******

The Weymouth Fourth of July Celebration will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at the George Lane-Wessagusset Beaches. Family Entertainment will begin at 5:00pm and the fireworks will begin at approximately 9:30pm.

Please remember that this is a family - oriented event. We have received numerous complaints over previous years regarding the activities of some of the youths on the beach. These complaints included illegal fireworks, alcohol and drug use as well as physical altercations.

Public consumption of alcohol or open containers is prohibited by state and local laws as is the public consumption of ma*****na.

Per Massachusetts General Law Chapter 148 Sec 39 the possession of fireworks is prohibited.

Per Weymouth Board of Health Regulation #32, smoking is prohibited in municipal-owned parks, playgrounds and beaches. The use of e-cigarettes is prohibited wherever smoking is prohibited.

This year, extra officers will be assigned to the beach as well as the use of video cameras. Illegal activities will not be tolerated. Any illegal activity will be subject to criminal charges.

Information will be shared with the Weymouth Public School Administration regarding any students in possession of illegal narcotics or alcohol. Please keep in mind that such illegal activities may impact extracurricular activities as well as athletics via MIAA rules.

The boat ramp closes at 4pm. All vehicles and trailers should be removed from the lot by this time.

Please be advised that the beaches will be closed immediately following the fireworks.

Neck Street and River Street will remain open until it is not safe for pedestrian traffic. They will re-open when pedestrian traffic has dissipated.

There will be heavy traffic delays at the conclusion of the fireworks so please plan accordingly.

The Town has been informed that the Calpine Fore River Energy Center will be having their spring outage for routine maintenance. Residents on Monatiquot Street may hear loud machinery and increases in activity from workers.

Work will begin this week and continue until Saturday (4/20) when they will return to normal operations. Work will occur during the day and conclude by 6:00 pm.

MassDOT is currently on-site making necessary repairs to the traffic lights in order to allow the roadway to be reopened.

FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1030 PM EDT

* WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of Massachusetts, including the following counties, Bristol and Norfolk and Rhode Island, including the following counties, Bristol, Kent, Newport and Providence.
* WHEN...Until 1030 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 717 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain moving through the area. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include... Providence, Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, East Providence, Woonsocket, Coventry, Cumberland, North Providence, West Warwick, Johnston, North Attleborough, North Kingstown, Attleboro, Smithfield, Lincoln, Central Falls, Barrington, Swansea and Seekonk.

Weymouth Emergency Management activated this morning for storm monitoring and storm related response operations. We currently have personnel in North Weymouth monitoring the high tide to ensure any unsafe conditions are quickly identified and addressed, as well as personnel on standby to meet other needs as they arise.

The Weymouth Emergency Management Department remains committed in providing the resources, manpower, and coordination, through the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, to provide for the protection of the citizens of Weymouth in order that we may save lives and minimize damage to public and private property during disaster situations.

🚨Town of Weymouth Declares Snow Emergency 02/13/24🚨

Due to the expected extent and timing of the incoming winter storm, a Snow Emergency has been declared by Acting Mayor Ted Langill, beginning at 6AM Tuesday morning (2/13/24).

- All non-emergency Town Buildings and Offices will be closed Tuesday, February 13, 2024. This includes Town Hall, Weymouth Public Library, Connell Pool and Rink, the Senior Center, as well as the Youth and Family Services and Parks and Recreation buildings. Non-emergency Town Offices will be open until 4:30pm today, Monday, February 12, for regular business. It is expected that Town Offices will re-open on Wednesday, February 14, 2024.

- Rubbish and recycling collection will be DELAYED ONE DAY. No trash will be picked up Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Please bring your barrels in ahead of the storm.

- An announcement regarding school closure will soon come from the Superintendent.

- PARKING BAN IN EFFECT IN WEYMOUTH TUESDAY AT 6AM UNTIL CONCLUSION OF SNOW REMOVAL OPERATIONS PER ORDER OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE:

No vehicle can be parked on public way beginning at 6AM Tuesday 2/13/24 until the conclusion of snow removal operations. If you are parked on a public way YOU WILL BE TICKETED AND TOWED. This includes all public ways from main roads to dead end streets. Please help us keep the streets clear so that the plows can do their job and emergency vehicles can get to their destinations.

* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to
13 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of northern Connecticut, central, eastern,
northeastern and western Massachusetts and northern Rhode
Island.

* WHEN...From 1 AM Tuesday to 1 AM EST Wednesday.

* IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible with
snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour at times. Areas of
blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The
hazardous conditions will particularly impact the Tuesday
morning commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...heaviest snow likely occurs roughly between
9 AM and 3 PM.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in
your vehicle in case of an emergency.

North Weymouth experienced coastal flooding impacting roadways late morning/early afternoon today due to a combination of high tide and storm surge. Emergency Management, along with the Weymouth Police Department, provided road blocks in areas where passage was deemed unsafe for motorists.

At this time, a majority of the flooding has receded and roadways are being reopened.

Here's a look at what to expect over the next 24-36 hours across SNE. Heavy rain will ramp up overnight. The greatest threat for damaging winds will be between 7 am and 2 pm tomorrow. Rapid improvement tomorrow evening will give way to scattered flurries and showers on Tuesday.
