Riverside PTO

Reminder: No school Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 2 & 3, in observance of Labor Day and for District Inservice Day.

A couple friendly reminders from PTO:

1. We want to remind you of our Outdoor Classroom Cleanup tomorrow morning.
Saturday, Aug. 31st from 9-10am at the outdoor classroom (fenced area on the south side of the school building)
Please bring garden tools and gloves for weeding and moving items around.
*** There is NO access to indoor restrooms at school during this time!***

2. Soccer registration is due next Wednesday. More forms are available in the office, if needed.
We still need adult volunteers for coaches and referees. We can't do this without more coaches.

Volunteers Needed (and a paid position available!)

From 12:00 to 1:15 every day, our students have an important part of their day, lunchtime! We are looking for some adults who could help during those times. Could you commit to one day a week volunteering at the school? Looking to make some extra money? There is one paid position, as well!

If you’d like to volunteer, please fill out the form with the district, and contact the Riverside Elementary USD 259 office to let them know you’re interested! 316-973-4050

On Wednesdays, look in your student’s bag for their blue folder. It has info from your Riverside classes, the school, AND PTO! Here’s what you’ll find from us this week:

- You’re invited to our first meeting of the year. This Monday at 6pm, with childcare provided. Come get the year started together!

- Saturday Aug 31 is the Outdoor Classroom Cleanup at 9am.

- Riverside Soccer starts Sept 7th! Sign up with this form, cost $5 per student. A great opportunity to be part of a team and learn the game.

Do you know of someone who could help? The fridge that the Riverside staff uses is having some troubles. Do you know of a repair person who could come take a look at it? Call the office if you’ve got a connection. 

We loved seeing everyone at open house last night. We shared a poster of the teacher wishlists and many of you asked to see it online. Please find them here and hope you can help our Riverside Teachers!

Tuesday was a busy day at Riverside Elementary! Our K-1 kids had a fun day at the park and celebrated awards. And our 5th grade rang the bell for the last time before going out to promotion. Thank you all for a fantastic school year!!

Teacher’s Treasures is a special drawing we do with the auction. Kids can enter for a chance to do a special out of school experience with our teachers and staff. Many are special meals or trips to museums or parks.

It takes our staff being open to going above and beyond the norm. This special engagement is an important part of our fundraiser, and wouldn’t be possible without the teachers joining in. Thank you all for your care and congrats to our students who won!

What a perfect morning for our Bike Bus! Students, parents, and even teachers joined us for a fun caravan this morning. Many thanks to Maggie Ballard and officers from Wichita Police Department for coming along with us!

FYI: we will not have childcare Monday night for our PTO meeting. But we will have a quiet corner of the library and incentive to keep it a short & focused meeting.

Folks, we had so many people come out for the Auction this year. It was so great to see the energy and excitement for our students and the programs we support. We raised around $7100 that night, but heard others would love to help donate.

Sneak peak at the kindergarten quilts made for the Riverside PTO auction! Riverside Elementary USD 259

The quilts were made from cyanotype a of students' names. They were pieced by our very own Judy Oliver ( Beth's 4th grade teacher) and quilted by Beth and Karen Spence Powell (whose grandsons also attended Riverside School!

The Riverside Specials Showcase and auction benefits the PTO and coincides with the annual art show!

Two dates to keep in mind:

First is April 26, when we will have our Specials Showcase and PTO Auction! More details will be out very shortly, but we will be celebrating all of our art, music, and PE classes alongside our annual auction fundraiser. Keep that evening open, and see you there!

Second, T-ball is starting very shortly! Kids in kindergarten through third grade are invited for a fun month of teamwork, exposure to the game, and learning good sportsmanship. Miss B will lead a short skills session at 9 AM on the sixth, followed by games at 10 AM throughout April. Sign your kid up by sending the form (in folders this week or right here), and $5 back to the PTO Mailbox at the school.
