πŸ‘€Dr. Fisher was able to examine some owls from Skywatch Bird Rescue the other day! A big shout out to all they do for our feathered friends. Take a look!

πŸ‘€ Remember our rabbit friend that sustained a perforating injury? Well she looks great today! The cornea is all healed up and she is feeling so much better. She got a clear bill of eye health from Dr Fisher today with minimal scarring and good vision! She is such a sweet rabbit and we are so glad we could save her eye and vision.

πŸ‘€ Exciting news! Follow along for more updates and information.

πŸ‘€ Hey everyone, we’re twinning today! Coco and Lexi are here for their routine check ups for relative dry eye. Did you know that tear film issues can come in many different forms? With relative dry eye, the pet makes enough tears but has a poor quality of tear film. They essentially break up too quickly. To help this, we boost their tear production with tear stimulator medications such as cyclosporine or tacrolimus. You could even call them the tacro twins! πŸ˜‚ They are such good little patients!

πŸ‘€ Happy birthday to this wild child! Gatsby is 8 years young. He came in for a follow up appointment after a parotid duct transposition on his right eye. This bizarre surgery transports the salivary duct from the mouth to the eye to help keep it lubricated. This is our best therapy for dogs that do not respond to standard tear stimulator medications with chronic dry eye. You can barely tell anything was done to his right eye! Good job Gatsby πŸ‘

πŸ‘€ Did you guys know we see species other than dogs and cats? Pretty much anything that has an eye problem we got you covered! This is Pippin and he came in for emergency surgery to fix a laceration of the right eye. Ouch! You can see on the picture where the iris is starting to protrude through the cornea. He is doing wonderful and already on the road to recovery.

πŸ‘€ Now what is this dark spot? This disease is unique to cats and is called a corneal sequestrum. A sequestrum is an area of dead or degenerative tissue on the surface of the eye. This cute patient is a Sphynx cat. Did you know Sphynx cats are 8 times more likely to develop sequestrums than non-Sphynx cats? Also, did you know that the Sphynx cat originated in Canada in the 1960s? The weather in Canada is a bit chilly for hairless cats! Go Maple Leafs! 🍁 πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦

πŸ‘€ Ouch! What’s that dark spot? Shooter came to see Animal Eye Care for a dark spot on the surface of his right eye. A thorough investigation revealed it was a piece of plant material stuck to the surface! We were able to remove the material with a little bit of hydropulsion therapy and he is healing uneventfully. Plant foreign bodies are fairly common in dogs and usually represent some sort of seed stuck on the surface. We were happy to help this kid out!

πŸ‘€ Lyra is ready for her close up! This photogenic little sphinx cat is seeing Dr Fisher for chronic squinting in the left eye. This can be frustrating in some cats and can be caused by anything from viral infections, bacterial infections, or even mechanical irritation from something rubbing on the cornea! She is a sweet little girl.

πŸ‘€ Thomas came to see Animal Eye Care for a small and squinting appearance of the left eye. He was diagnosed with symblepharon, which is scarring of the tissue around the eye. Dr Fisher was able to trim the scarring and open up his eyelid to near normal! These are some great before and after pictures. Thomas is also up for adoption with the Purring Angels pet adoption. He is great with cats, and dogs, and can be delivered to his new forever home. Look at that face, he is a very sweet guy!

πŸ‘€ Elmor Bleu is helping us open up and unlock the doors this morning! He just picked up the keys and went with it. We have been monitoring his eyes over the past few years for a congenital defect called an optic nerve coloboma. This is a picture of the back of his eye and the large white area is the coloboma. Bleu doesn’t let it slow him down!

12/13/2023

Thanks to their Mom for bringing them to see us today!

πŸ‘€ Meet Finn! He has a little extra friend growing next to his eye. This is what we call a dermoid. Dermoids represent normal haired tissue in an abnormal location. They are present since birth and can sometimes cause irritation. Finn doesn’t seem bothered by his!

πŸ‘€ Maverick came to see Animal Eye Care for his cherry eye surgery. Cherry eye is fairly common in bulldogs and other brachycephalic dogs. It is recommended to reposition the cherry eye to help prevent other problems down the line. He is a handsome guy and his brother Goose is waiting at home for him!
